Olympian Alexandra Paul has died at the age of 31.

Paul, a Canadian competitive ice dancer, achieved recognition alongside her skating partner and eventual husband, Mitchell Islam.

Together, they secured the silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships and were three-time Canadian national bronze medalists.

Their senior career included a bronze medal at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy and representation of Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Now, it’s been confirmed that Paul has tragically passed away at the age of 31 following a devastating car crash.

The heart-wrenching incident unfolded as Paul was driving with her 10-month-old son, resulting in a harrowing seven-car collision caused by an out-of-control truck.

The accident occurred just outside of Toronto, where an out-of-control truck ploughed through a construction zone, colliding with a line of waiting cars, including Paul’s.

While her son miraculously survived the crash, he was taken to a children’s hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the collision.

A statement from Skate Canada reads: “It is with a heavy heart that Skate Canada announces the sudden passing of a cherished member of our skating community, Alexandra Paul.

“A shining star on and off the ice, Alexandra’s dedication, passion, and remarkable talents have left an indelible mark on the world of figure skating.

The page features a tribute, which reads: “As a Canadian success story is tragically cut short, Alex will be remembered as a passionate, determined young lady who could illuminate any room she entered.

“She was not only kind, educated, witty, and resolute, but Alex was also a staple in the international Figure Skating community representing Canada at the Olympics.

“But above all, Alex will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother to Charlie.”

Paul leaves behind a legacy that touched not only the skating community but all who had the privilege of knowing her.
