The star has begun 2025 with a pair of life-changing announcements, coming out and revealing her engagement to her longtime partner.
The 27-year-old actress shared the news with fans through heartfelt social media posts that highlighted both her personal growth and her commitment to advocacy.
In a moving Instagram post, Moretz publicly identified as a gay woman for the first time while emphasizing the importance of voting in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
She wrote: “I believe in the need for legal protections that protect the LGBTQ+ community as a gay woman. We need protections in this country and to have access to the care we need and deserve.”
The actress also voiced her support for Kamala Harris, stating: “I voted early… Kamala Harris will protect [women’s rights and LGBTQ+ protections] for us.”
Moretz’s revelation follows years of speculation and a career of LGBTQ+ advocacy.
She previously portrayed a gay teenager in The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018), a drama that delved into the harmful practices of conversion therapy.
Speaking to Deadline while promoting the film, she said: “I’ve been an activist for the LGBTQIA+ community since I was a little girl.”
She also emphasized the need to avoid assumptions about others’ sexualities, stating: “Don’t project your own issues onto them. Why don’t we let people be who they wanna be?”
This personal milestone comes amid another celebration: Moretz and her longtime partner Kate Harrison are engaged.
Fans and friends have flooded social media with congratulations. One supporter tweeted, “I love her for this. It’s so beautiful to see her living authentically.”
Another added, “She and Kate deserve all the happiness in the world.”
On New Year’s Day, Moretz shared a photo of the couple wearing matching rings on Instagram with the caption: “Happiest New Year. So thankful for what this year has brought… Wishing all of you a peaceful start to this new year.”
The engagement appears to have happened earlier, as eagle-eyed fans noticed a diamond ring on Moretz’s hand in photos shared last summer.
The couple has been romantically linked since 2019, maintaining a relatively private relationship while occasionally sharing glimpses of their life together.
Harrison, a model, has been a steady presence in Moretz’s life, with the pair attending events like the NYC Dyke March and celebrating milestones together.
They’ve also kept their relationship low-key, with Moretz stating in 2022: “I like to keep my private life private.”
