Desperate Housewives Star Has Died
A beloved star from Desperate Housewives has died.
The American TV series, created by Marc Cherry, follows the lives of a close-knit group of housewives who live in a seemingly perfect neighborhood that actually hides secrets, crimes, forbidden romances, and domestic struggles.
Throughout its run from 2004 to 2012, it was well-received by viewers and critics and has since been described as a ‘new classic.’
After hearing the saddening news that one of its stars has passed away, fans have taken to social media and paid tribute.
One says: “A true talent whose legacy will live on in our laughter and memories.”
Another adds: “What a wonderful actress, unlike anyone else.”
“Her talent and warmth will forever be missed,” comments a third. “Rest in peace.”
Somebody else writes: “One of my most beloved characters in Desperate Housewives.”
Valerie Mahaffey was born in Sumatra, Indonesia, and lived there until she was 11 years old. She then lived in disparate spots, including Nigeria, England, and Texas.
Her first film credit came in 1997 in Tell Me My Name.
Over her five-decade career, Mahaffey appeared in dozens of TV shows, including medical drama ER and the musical series Glee.
She won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the CBS drama series Northern Exposure.
Although Mahaffey only appeared in eight episodes, one of her most memorable roles was in Desperate Housewives as Alma Hodge, the manipulative ex-wife of Orson Hodge.
Fans will remember the actress for her role as teacher Victoria MacElroy in Young Sheldon, a spinoff of the comedy sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
She also starred in a number of Off-Broadway and regional plays.

Mahaffey’s family confirmed her death at age 71.
The star’s publicist, Jillian Roscoe, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she died in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer.
In a statement to Variety, Mahaffey’s husband, Joseph Kell, said he had ‘lost the love of my life, and America has lost one of its most endearing actresses.’
He added: “She will be missed.”
The couple’s daughter, Alice, also wrote on Facebook: “I don’t really have the words to say right now. Cancer sucks. I’ll look for you in all the fun moments of life. I know that’s where you’ll be.”
Friends said the actress was naturally kind-hearted and exuded a warm nature.
Mahaffey is survived by her husband and daughter, Alice.
