Disney Star Rushed To Hospital After Being Shot
Former Disney Channel actress Christy Carlson Romano was rushed to hospital after being shot.
The 40-year-old actress is best known for her role as Ren Stevens in Even Stevens and for voicing the title character in Kim Possible.
She still remains active in the entertainment industry, having recently competed in the third season of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, where she was eliminated in the eighth episode, which aired on January 29.
Romano has now taken to Instagram and explained how she was shot while celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
The actress wrote in her Instagram caption: “Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present.
“There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”
Romano recounted how her husband quickly responded to the situation: “[He] immediately sprung into action, assessed me, and rushed me to the hospital.”
She noted that she was ‘hit in five places,’ with one being ‘less than an inch’ from hitting her in the right eye.
Unfortunately, a fragment of the pellet remains lodged behind the star’s eye, and doctors have determined that surgical removal is too risky at this time.
Romano added: “Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
Despite the traumatic experience, Romano also expressed immense gratitude, writing: “All I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive.
“I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”
She added: “I’m very grateful to first responders as a whole. I mean, they’re just the most amazing, superhero-like people to take care of us at our most desperate times.”
Romano also posted a video in which she displayed her injuries, pointing out the remaining fragments in her face.
In response to his wife’s post, Rooney said in praise of the actress: “The bravest, toughest, most stoic and bada** woman I have ever met.
“I am so thankful you are alive. I am so thankful you are the mother to our children. I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself.”
Romano and Rooney, who married in December 2013, share two daughters, Isabella and Sophia.
ABC News reached out to Romano’s representatives for additional details regarding the location of the incident and whether a police report was filed, but no further information was available at the time of publication.
The hospital where the actress was treated has also not provided any statements.
