Elliot Page has opened up about a life-changing moment he experienced in a gay bar just before he starred in Juno.

The Umbrella Academy star, 36, has starred in huge films such as Inception and the X-Men franchise.

One of his biggest roles though was in the film Juno – for which he earned an Oscar nomination.

Now in Page’s upcoming memoir – ‘Pageboy’ – the star has recalled a life-changing moment he went through three months before making the movie.

In an extract from his book, the Hard Candy star shares the struggles he went through with his identity.

He writes: “Shame had been drilled into my bones since I was my tiniest self, and I struggled to rid my body of that old toxic and erosive marrow.”

But he reveals that these emotions disappeared after he went on a date to a gay bar in 2007 with a woman called Paula.

Page continues: “There was a joy in the room.

“It lifted me, forced a reaction in the jaw, an uncontrolled, steady smile.”

The Super actor adds that he felt free from the ‘antagonising, cruel voice that flooded my head whenever I felt desire’ and then he kissed his date.

“Maybe for a second, I could allow myself pleasure,” he continues.

“Here I was on the precipice. Getting closer to my desires, my dreams, me, without the unbearable weight of the self-disgust I’d carried for so long.

“But a lot can change in a few months.

“And in a few months, Juno’would premiere.”

The comedy-drama follows Juno MacGuff (Page), a teenager who falls pregnant after sleeping with her friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera) and is pressured into adult life.

He recently shared a topless photo to show off the results of his top surgery and it received over 1.3 million likes on Instagram.

“I am so grateful for what gender-affirming care has allowed me and I look forward to sharing more of my journey soon.”

It will also ‘cover mental health, assault, love, relationships, s** and the cesspool that Hollywood can be’.
