Fans Are Outraged After Finding Out Who Jenna Ortega Is Dating
Jenna Ortega is rumored to have a new boyfriend, and fans are not happy after learning who he is, due to his controversial past.
The Wednesday star is no stranger to speculation over her love life, having found herself at the center of some pretty bizarre stories over the years.
While the 23-year-old has been open about her desire to keep her private life on the down low, she has been linked to a number of different potential partners, but has declined to confirm any of them.
In recent years, she has been linked to her Stuck in the Middle co-star Isaak Presley, though it appeared the pair were likely just friends. Rumors also swirled regarding her and Jacob Sartorius, after she appeared in his music video for Chapstick.
Jenna Ortega has never confirmed any relationships
She was also closely linked to Shazam! actor Asher Angel, after being spotted with him at the premiere of the movie Venom in October 2018. The pair were also photographed wearing his and hers costumes at Just Jared’s 7th Annual Halloween Party, where they dressed up as Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson.
Though they never confirmed their relationship status, it’s widely believed to be the long term relationship Ortega mentioned while appearing on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“I was in a relationship for a couple of years but I stopped it when things got too hectic,” she said. “And it had nothing to do with them. I just couldn’t manage all the things.”
One of the biggest relationship rumors, which Ortega was forced to step in and deny, came when gossip accounts on social media began reporting she was dating Jonny Depp, who at the time was nearly three times her age.
The actress initially addressed the rumors on Instagram in 2023, stating she had never met or spoken to Depp, calling the speculation ‘insane’ and completely ‘made up.’
She later revealed the false narrative had spread so far that she even had colleagues asking her if she was dating him while on set.
Controversy around Jenna Ortega’s current rumored boyfriend
Fast forward to present day, and the 23-year-old has been closely linked to another man, who she is widely believed to be in a relationship with, and fans are completely divided.
Speculation began in October last year when she was first spotted hanging out with Danish musician Elias Rønnenfelt, who is the lead singer in a punk rock group called Iceage.
Ortega appeared in the music video for the band’s track Mona Lisa, and since then the pair have been seen on a number of occasions, getting ‘lovey dovey’ in Denmark, sharing a kiss in Copenhagen and relaxing at a pub in Dublin.
But while that all sounds lovely, there are some pretty concerning allegations regarding Rønnenfelt’s history, after he was previously linked to neo-Nazis and fascists.
The 34-year-old made some controversial artwork for his band when he was just 18, which included ‘quasi-fascist imagery’. He’s also accused of ‘curating a festival that included an act with a racist name.’
Since then, he has addressed the controversies, in 2021 telling Pitchfork he and his band have no ‘sympathies or leanings’ towards right wing ideologies.
“When a lot of these allegations came out we were dumbfounded,” he said. “Now I understand that we hold a responsibility on our shoulders to make it clear what we stand for.”
Ortega is now facing backlash for being linked to Rønnenfelt, after she previously walked away from the Scream franchise in 2023, when Melissa Barrera was fired for speaking out about Israel’s war on Gaza.
“I have thoughts on this Jenna Ortega situation,” one wrote on X. “Sure, she could be a complete hypocrite who doesn’t care about anyone. Or this could be a 23-year-old in a relationship with a 34-year-old man who’s a Nazi, in a bad situation.”
Another added: “Jenna Ortega, WTF. Why are you dating a racist person, let’s ignore the hypocrite site of it. You’re a WOC, have some self respect OMG.
“Like I stopped caring about celeb dating life I simply do not care but this situation is just atrocious.”
Despite his past, Rønnenfelt has spoken proudly about his great-grandfather fought against the Nazis by gaining their trust and passing on information to the resistance while Denmark was under the rule of the Nazis.
With all the backlash on social media, both Ortega and Rønnenfelt have declined to comment on their relationship status.
