Fleetwood Mac was one of the most successful bands of the 1970s and 1980s, with smash hits such as ‘The Chain’, ‘Pretty Lies’, and ‘Go Your Own Way’.

It formed in 1967 and went on to sell over 100 million records.

The band consisted of Mick Fleetwood, Christine and John McVie, as well as Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

One of their best-known albums, Rumours, was released in 1977 and went on to become one of the biggest-selling albums of all time, with around 40 million sales.

McVie was one of eight members of the band inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the same year she stepped away from Fleetwood Mac.

The band has also released a statement for their fans.

In a social media post, they wrote: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie.

“She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.

“We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.

“She will be so very missed.”

McVie was born Christine Perfect in the village of Bouth, in Lancashire on July 12, 1943.

Before joining the band in 1970, she was a pianist and backing singer for a blues band named Chicken Shack, which was a part of the same record label as Fleetwood Mac.

Once becoming a member of the successful group, she moved out to the US with them in 1974.

She also married John McVie, one of the first members of Fleetwood Mac in 1968.

However, they divorced in 1976.

McVie’s death comes just two years after Fleetwood Mac co-founder, Peter Green, who died at the age of 73.
