Gary Oldman Fans Speechless After Finding Out His Sister Is A Famous TV Star
Fans of Gary Oldman have been left doing a double-take after discovering the Oscar-winning actor has a TV star sibling of his own.
Known for disappearing into his roles and keeping his private life largely out of the spotlight, Oldman has long been admired for his transformative performances on screen – but it turns out there’s a surprising family connection that many never saw coming.
It’s a reminder of how often Hollywood family ties fly under the radar. While some famous dynasties dominate headlines, other celebrity relationships remain hidden in plain sight for years, only surfacing when curious fans connect the dots.
From actors and musicians to presenters and public figures, the entertainment world is full of unexpected relatives who share both DNA and the limelight.
In Oldman’s case, the revelation has sparked fresh fascination – not just about his family background, but about how two well-known names can carve out successful careers without many people realizing they’re related at all.
The making of a modern screen legend
At 67, Oldman is widely regarded as one of the most versatile and compelling actors of his generation, celebrated for his ability to completely transform into the characters he portrays.
Known for his intense preparation and chameleon-like range, he has built a reputation for disappearing into roles across a wide variety of genres.
Born in London, England, Oldman began his acting career in the late 1970s after training in theater, honing his craft on stage before transitioning to film.
His early breakthrough came in 1982 with a supporting role in the drama Remembrance, which marked the beginning of what would become a decades-spanning career in cinema.

Over the years, he has become a major force in Hollywood, appearing in some of the industry’s most successful franchises.
He played Commissioner James Gordon in The Dark Knight Trilogy and brought warmth and gravitas to the role of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films, endearing himself to a new generation of fans.
In 2017, Oldman took on the formidable task of portraying British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. His transformative performance was met with widespread acclaim, with critics hailing it as ‘electrifying’ and ‘phenomenal.’
The role earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, cementing his status as one of the finest performers working today.
Now, fans have been joking that talent clearly runs in the family – with some quipping that Oldman’s sister has delivered a few ‘Oscar-worthy’ turns of her own, albeit in the fictional East London borough of Walford.
The sister fans never knew about
It has emerged that EastEnders star Laila Morse – best known for playing Mo Harris, affectionately dubbed ‘Big Mo’ – is in fact Gary Oldman’s sister.
The revelation has sent social media into a spin. One stunned fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “If there is a better fact out there than Big Mo being Gary Oldman’s sister, I want to hear it.”
Another said: “Finding out Big Mo off EastEnders is Gary Oldman’s sister has absolutely blown my head off this morning hahaha.”
A third joked: “Disgraceful that Gary Oldman did not give special thanks to Big Mo in his [Oscars acceptance] speech.”
“How did I not know Laila Morse, aka Big Mo (EastEnders), and Gary Oldman are brother and sister?! Wtf,” added a fourth.

Gary Oldman’s famous sister
Morse, 80, was born Maureen Oldman but later adopted her stage name, which was given to her by Isabella Rossellini, who was in a relationship with her brother at the time. The name Laila Morse is an anagram of ‘mia sorella,’ the Italian phrase for ‘my sister.’
Her acting breakthrough came in 1997 when she appeared in Oldman’s directorial debut, Nil by Mouth. In the gritty drama, which also starred Ray Winstone, Morse played the mother of a drug addict – a role that marked the start of her screen career.
Three years later, she joined EastEnders as the formidable Big Mo, a character she’s portrayed on and off for over 20 years, becoming a firm fan favorite on the long-running BBC soap.
Shortly after beginning her stint on the show, Morse was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. Thankfully, she received the all-clear within a year.

In 2013, she faced financial difficulties and was declared bankrupt, with reported debts of between £150,000 and £200,000, per the Mirror.
That same year, she entered the jungle on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, appearing alongside Joey Essex, Steve Davis, and Kian Egan. Morse was ultimately evicted on day 16 of the competition, finishing in 11th place.
The unexpected sibling link has left many fans admitting they thought they knew everything there was to know about the Oscar-winning star – only to be proven wrong.
It just goes to show that even in an age of endless interviews, social media deep-dives, and decades-long careers in the spotlight, celebrities can still surprise us. From hidden family ties to little-known past roles, there are always new facts waiting to be uncovered – and sometimes, the most shocking revelations are hiding in plain sight.
