Georgina Cooper’s Cause Of Death Confirmed
Georgina Cooper’s cause of death has been confirmed by authorities.
Cooper, a celebrated supermodel of the 1990s and an icon of the ‘Cool Britannia’ era, tragically died at the age of 46.
Her passing, which occurred just months after her wedding, devastated the fashion industry and those who knew and loved her.
Known for her striking features and her signature gap-toothed smile, Cooper rose to fame as one of the most influential models of her time.
And now, her cause of death has been confirmed by a coroner.
Cooper’s journey into the world of modeling began at the tender age of 13.
Just two years later, her breakthrough moment arrived when she appeared in a Bon Jovi music video, launching her into the spotlight.
The London-born model quickly became one of the defining faces of the 1990s, frequently gracing the covers of prestigious fashion magazines such as Vogue and The Face.
Described as London’s ‘original gap-toothed girl,’ Cooper embodied the edgy, unconventional beauty that dominated the era.
She was a muse to legendary photographer Corinne Day and a favorite on runways for designers such as Julien MacDonald and Gianni Versace.
Her vibrant personality and unique look set her apart, solidifying her place in fashion history.
Carole White, a former modeling executive, remembered Cooper as a natural talent.
“She was a walk-in, and she was so much fun,” White said.
“When she was young, she made a lot of money, and she had this very edgy streak that was of the time. Everyone found the gap between her teeth quite amazing.”
The news of Cooper’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from friends and colleagues in the fashion industry.
Fellow model Jade Parfitt shared her sorrow, calling Cooper a ‘ray of light.’
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Parfitt said: “Georgina was a very popular model who was riotous fun, always laughing and being naughty in all the best ways. Her achievements in the industry were huge.”
Supermodel Erin O’Connor took to Instagram to honor her friend, writing: “You were an incredibly kind and funny human being, Georgina. I/we all admired and loved you so much for the warmth, generosity, and gentle mischief you brought to the world.”
Cooper’s former agent, Dean Goodman, expressed his heartbreak, calling her ‘the original gap-toothed girl.’
In a heartfelt statement, he said: “I will miss her immensely. RIP, Georgie girl. I will never forget you and always love you, see you on the other side.”
Despite her enormous success, Cooper stepped away from the fashion world in the early 2000s to focus on raising her son, Sonny.
Reflecting on this decision in 2018, she said: “After I had my son, I just couldn’t bear to leave him alone, and I wanted to be there for him. I tried to continue modeling, but it broke my heart when I had to leave him for work.”
To balance her career and family, Cooper took on modeling assignments closer to home but ultimately chose to prioritize her son.
“My life was at a crossroads, and I decided that Sonny came first,” she explained.
In recent years, Cooper worked in hospitality, taking roles in local pubs near her home in Kent.
One of these venues, the Fox & Goose, hosted her wedding reception earlier this year when she married her husband, Nigel.
The couple had planned a bright future together, making her sudden passing even more tragic.
Cooper’s life came to a heartbreaking end during a trip to Greece, a country she had visited regularly for over two decades.
While staying at the Marianna Hotel apartments in Kos with her husband, she became gravely ill the day before she was due to return home.
She was rushed to the island’s main hospital, but her condition deteriorated rapidly.
Doctors arranged for her to be airlifted to Heraklion, Crete, where she was admitted to an intensive care unit.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Cooper passed away after five days in intensive care.
A hospital spokesperson told MailOnline: “The doctors did what they could, but because of her condition, there was not much that could be done. She died from cirrhosis of the liver and internal bleeding after her organs failed.”
A local coroner determined that an autopsy was unnecessary, as her medical history was well-documented.
Her body was flown back to England shortly after her death, and plans for a funeral service were announced.
Family and friends will gather at Vinters Park Crematorium in Maidstone, Kent, to say their final goodbyes.
Dean Goodman revealed that Cooper had faced significant health challenges in recent years.
“Georgina had been unwell during COVID and had developed some health problems,” he said, adding that she had been in and out of hospitals.
A source in Kos noted that this was not the first time Cooper had experienced health issues during her visits to Greece.
“She loved Greece and was always coming here, but she had health problems and was ill once before when she was here,” the source said.
According to Mayo Clinic, cirrhosis of the liver is a condition caused by long-term liver damage, which leads to scarring that prevents the organ from functioning properly.
For Cooper, the complications proved fatal, ending her life far too soon.
Cooper is survived by her son Sonny and her husband Nigel, who are left to grapple with their loss.
As Goodman notes: “She had plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everybody is devastated. She was a genuine superstar.”
