The chef’s new Netflix documentary

Gordon Ramsay’s new Netflix series, Becoming Gordon Ramsay, released on February 18, 2026.

The show follows the 59-year old chef as he opens five new restaurants in London, on the top floors of 22 Bishopsgate.

The challenge? Ramsay has to open them all at the same time.

He describes it as his most ambitious project ever, saying that it is ‘high risk, high reward’ and ‘if it fails…I’m f***ed.’

The six-part documentary caused a lot of controversy and currently has a ‘rotten’ 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The main critics came from Mumsnet, where user paloma7 didn’t hold back.

“Ffs! There is a whole dead baby suckling pig on a plat,” she wrote. “They are talking about making this a restaurant feature, requiring two chefs who carve it at your table.

“AIBU to think this is obscene? Yes, I’m vegetarian, but I think even most meat eaters would balk at this? If I were in his restaurant and that was going at the the next table, I would leave. Wtf is wrong with humans?”

While some people agreed, others told her to ‘just avert her eyes if she’s offended’.

One user commented: “Most carnivores are aware of where their meat comes from. I think you’re upset because you’re a vegetarian. That’s ok, each other own.”

While the multi-Michelin star chef is no stranger to controversy and dividing opinion, everyone came together in his comment section after he shared the heartbreaking diagnosis.

Gordon Ramsay’s surgery and recovery

The 59-year-old revealed that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer earlier in the year, and had an operation under his ear to remove the basal cell carcinoma – a type of non-melanoma skin cancer.

He captioned the post: “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma.

“Thank you! Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend.

“I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund.”

The TV personality’s daughter, Holly Ramsay, wrote: “Love you dad.”

Cancer Research also left a comment under the post, which read: “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun.

“Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”

TV judge Robert Rinder also posted a heart emoji.

What is basal cell carcinoma?

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer and the most occurring cancer globally.

It’s a type of non-melanoma skin cancer that starts in the top layer of the skin, typically arising from sun-exposed areas.

The main cause is UV light, but other risk factors include older age, having pale skin, and having had skin cancer in the past.

BCC symptoms and prevention

The main symptoms include a growth on the skin, most commonly found on body parts that are more exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck, and hands, as well as new or changing spots, and sores that don’t heal, as per the Cleveland Clinic.

To reduce the risk, it’s recommended to find shade where possible, apply sunscreen regularly, and be generally careful in the sun.

BCC is rarely a fatal cancer and is also among the most treatable when spotted early.
