Gordon Ramsay has warned diners that there’s one thing that you should never order at a restaurant.

The Hell’s Kitchen star is famous for his foul-mouth rants in the kitchen and his award-winning empire of restaurants.

Ramsay is also recognisable for being the man to call when your eatery is failing – with his popular TV programme Kitchen Nightmares showing off his expert knowledge of the hospitality industry.

So if Ramsay has advice on what not to order when eating out, it is probably wise to listen to him.

The celebrity chef founded his restaurant group, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, in 1997 and since then his eateries have been awarded a total of 17 Michelin stars.

Ramsay became one of the world’s best-known chefs after starring in the fly-on-the-wall documentary series Boiling Point in 1999.

He’s since become known for presenting TV programmes such as The F Word, MasterChef, Hotel Hell and Next Level Chef.

In an interview with Town & County, Ramsay is asked what is the one thing you should never order at a restaurant.

The world-famous chef reveals that he would never order the soup of the day, as there’s a possibility the restaurant could just be reusing the day before’s soup – which means it isn’t fresh.

Ramsay tells the publisher: “Ask what yesterday’s soup du jour was before today’s special. It may be the case that it’s the soup du month.”

The MasterChef judge also explains why Valentine’s Day is the ‘worst day of the year to go out’ for a meal.

Ramsay says that ‘busy kitchens’ result in diners not getting the ‘true feeling of the restaurant’.

He adds that nothing is ‘more romantic’ than cooking a meal for your partner on the most romantic day of the year anyway.

Previously, the Next Level Chef star has shared his three golden rules that customers should follow when eating at a restaurant if they want the best experience possible.

Ramsay told the Daily Mail that customers should avoid specials, be suspicious of outlandish boasts and be prepared to haggle for their wine.

He explained that when an eatery ‘lists 10 specials’, they definitely aren’t that special.

When it comes to wine, Ramsay added: “We have a fear about talking to sommeliers because you think you’re going to be ripped off.

“So get the sommelier to come up with a great glass or great bottle and give him a price. And make sure it’s under $30 (£23.50).”

Ramsay then said that some restaurants claim that an item on the menu is ‘famous’ without any proof, so he tends to avoid these kinds of places.

And when it comes to booking a table at a restaurant, the Hotel Hell star has advised that you book a table for three instead of two – ensuring you have much more space and avoid ‘getting stuck in the corner’.
