Physically Healthy Actress Explains Her Decision To Die By Euthanasia
A physically healthy actress is requesting to die by euthanasia and has revealed the reason why in a heartbreaking plea.
In a controversial request to the Canadian government, the 48-year-old star has requested to die by euthanasia
Who is the actress?
Claire Brosseau, who is seeking access to medical assistance in dying, is fluently bilingual in French and English, and has appeared in dozens of Hollywood movies.
After graduating from school at the age of 16, she was given a place at an elite drama college, before moving to New York City just two years later.
The star went onto have a successful career in the industry, starring in films such as A Previous Engagement, Happily Ever After, Phil The Alien, and more.
She also participated in numerous TV projects with James Franco and Daniel Stern, acted in commercials in Los Angeles, and took on some writing gigs.

What is the Medical Aid in Dying program?
In 2021, the star decided that she would apply for euthanasia under Canada’s Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) program.
The program allows people with ‘grievous and irremediable medical conditions’ to end their own life with the assistance of a doctor.
Canada is one of just a dozen countries where euthanasia can be granted in specific circumstances.
Which countries offer it?
Others include the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Colombia, Spain, New Zealand, and parts of Australia.
Euthanasia has long been a controversial and political hot potato in many parts of the world.
There are several complex reasons for and against it being legalized, and many people are extremely passionate on both sides of the debate.

Why euthanasia is controversial
While many believe that euthanasia, the intentional ending of a person’s life, allows dignity and autonomy while individuals are suffering, others believe that it has the potential to be abused, and conflicts with medical ethics.
Euthanasia is sometimes a last resort for terminally ill people that are in great pain, but its use has evolved over time.
While many claim that a person suffering with mental health issues shouldn’t be granted permission to die by euthanasia, many argue that it is a person’s right to decide themselves.
Canada’s MAiD program was allegedly supposed to follow in the footsteps of the Netherland’s program, which allowed for mental health claims to be assessed by a specialist medical team in March 2023.
However, the ruling has since has been delayed twice.
Claire Brosseau’s plea
Speaking about her battles with mental health issues with the NY Times, Brosseau said: “I had a great place to stay and I was doing well on films and I was having fun on set.
“But every night I would go back to my hotel and I would bawl and scream and rip my clothes apart.
“And cry… I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
“And then the next day at work, I’d be fine and I’d have so much fun.”
She was first diagnosed with anxiety, chronic s**cidal ideation, an eating disorder, personality disorder, substance abuse disorder, PTSD, and a number of other conditions as a teenager.
And they have only become more crippling in adulthood.

In an open letter earlier this year the actress noted that she had previously made several attempts to take her life.
Having been treated by psychiatrists, psychologists, and counsellors all across America, her choice has been made.
However, it seems unlikely that Brosseau will have access to MAiD until next year.
She has received treatment from an intensive psychiatric care unit, and has taken multiple antidepressant and antipsychotic drugs to help ease her symptoms.
Shortly after her s**cide attempt in 2021, she decided to pursue MAiD shortly after.
Despite doing all she can, Brosseau insists that any more time living in torment is just too long to wait.
