Beandri’s mother, Bea Booysen, shared the heartbreaking news on Wednesday, December 18, in a Facebook post titled ‘In Loving Memory of Beandri Booysen.’

Posted in the ‘Beandri, Our Inspiration’ group, which the family had established 15 years ago, Bea’s message described her daughter as ‘one of South Africa’s most beloved and inspirational young women.’

Beandri’s TikTok channel, where she shared heartfelt and motivational content, attracted over 278,000 followers.

Her posts, brimming with optimism, resonated with fans worldwide.

Following the news of her death, a tribute video on TikTok gained over 300,000 views by December 19, with messages of grief and admiration pouring in.

Comments such as: “RIP little angel who made a big impact” and: “What an inspiration she was” underscored the impact she had on her community.

Earlier in October, Beandri underwent heart surgery, as her mother revealed on Facebook.

Tragically, Bea later informed supporters that Beandri’s heart had stopped, prompting an outpouring of prayers and support from her followers.

The South African TikTok influencer passed away at the age of 19 due to Progeria, a rare genetic condition also called Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome.

This disease causes children to age rapidly, with significant health challenges.

Beandri became a powerful advocate for raising awareness about Progeria and other special needs, inspiring thousands with her resilience and unique spirit.

Bea noted that Beandri was the last known person in South Africa living with Progeria. She asked for privacy as the family mourned and promised to provide updates about memorial service arrangements.

Progeria, while rare, has been the focus of ongoing research.

According to the Progeria Research Foundation  (PRF), as of September 2024, there were 17 children in the United States identified with the condition, which has a prevalence of about 1 in 20 million.

Children with Progeria typically show no signs at birth but begin to display symptoms such as stunted growth, loss of body fat and hair, and cardiovascular issues within the first two years of life.

Despite their physical challenges, intellectual development remains unaffected.

The average life expectancy for those with Progeria is 14 to 15 years, with most succumbing to heart disease or stroke.

However, some individuals have lived into their early twenties.

Recent advances in treatment, particularly the drug lonafarnib, have shown promise in slowing the disease’s progression.

Nevertheless, there is still no cure, and research continues to focus on improving the quality of life and extending the lifespan of those affected.
