Jason Momoa Looks Unrecognizable In Shocking New Photos Without Iconic Beard
Jason Momoa has revealed his controversial new look after getting rid of his iconic beard.
Some celebrities just wouldn’t be the same without their signature feature or catchphrase.
Take Elton John without his glasses, or Lady Gaga without her adventurous wardrobe.
And the same goes for Momoa without his beard.
The only difference being – his beard is actually gone.
Just yesterday (July 30) the star revealed on Instagram that the facial hair had to go, as he returns to the Dune film franchise.
The actor starred in 2021’s Dune as Duncan Idaho, but after sitting out the second installment, Dune: Part Two, Momoa confirmed that he will be back for filmmaker, Denis Villeneuve’s, part three.
“Only for you, Denis,” the actor said as he began to shave off his much-loved beard.
Dune: Part Three is also set to feature returning cast members Timothy Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh.
In the clip, Momoa revealed that it was the first time in six years that he was braving the shave.
The 45-year-old’s post has now received over 70,000 likes, but the actor himself isn’t so sure on the new look.
Moments after the deed was done, Jason noted: “I hate it.”
But fans in the comments were divided about the new look.
One said: “Great, you look so handsome, Jason why do you hide your beautiful face.”
Another added: “Am I the only one who likes “no beard?”
“I love the change,” a third commented.
But others were not so convinced.
One user noted: “Not to be dramatic, but this is like watching an angel lose their wings.”
Another said: “A beard might just be the male version of makeup.”
Some fans suggested that the actor really does look unrecognizable following the trim.
One wrote: “From that first shot of him shaving, if you’d asked me and given me 1,000 tries, I would never have guessed it was Jason Momoa.”
Another said: “I didn’t even recognize him!”
But the beard-shaving was for a great reason, and fans will be glad to know that the star is making a return to the iconic film franchise.
The film is also set to feature Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, Momoa’s teenage son, whom he shares with actress Lisa Bonet.
The pair announced their split in 2022 and later confirmed their divorce in 2024.
The couple have two children together, Nakoa-Wolf and daughter Lola Iolani.
Speaking about working with his son during filming, and how he landed the part, Momoa noted that he did it ‘all on his own.’
In an interview with Extra TV, Momoa said: “I didn’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own.
“I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own.
“I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and he’s holding his s*** down with Denis Villeneuve.”
