Jennifer Aniston Says She’s Done With ‘Cancel Culture’
Jennifer Aniston has slammed ‘cancel culture’, saying she’s ‘so over’ it.
In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, actress Aniston voiced her strong opposition to cancel culture.
She says that she refuses to lump all individuals who make mistakes into the same category as individuals like disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
Aniston, known for her roles in Friends and The Morning Show, worked with Weinstein on the movie Derailed in 2005.
The 54-year-old actress expressed her frustration, suggesting that it lacks room for redemption and a nuanced understanding of individual actions.
“I’m so over cancel culture,” she told the magazine. “I probably just got cancelled by saying that.
“I just don’t understand what it means. … Is there no redemption? I don’t know. I don’t put everybody in the Harvey Weinstein basket.”

She highlighted the concern that every mistake seems to be treated with the same level of condemnation, regardless of its gravity.
Aniston’s viewpoint resonates with many who believe that the consequences of cancel culture can sometimes be disproportionate to the offence committed.
However, it’s important to note that Aniston’s comments did not imply support or defence of Harvey Weinstein.
In fact, she described her interactions with him as uncomfortable, stating that he was not someone she looked forward to spending time with during their collaboration on Derailed.
While she is not one of the numerous women who have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct, she reveals that she never felt comfortable around him.
She said: “He’s not a guy, you’re like, ‘God, I can’t wait to hang out with Harvey.’ Never.
“You were actually like, ‘Oh, God, OK, suck it up.’”
She added: “I remember actually, he came to visit me on a movie to pitch me a movie. And I do remember consciously having a person stay in my trailer.”

The New York Post contacted Weinstein’s reps, who then provided a lengthy statement ‘From Harvey’.
It begins: “I had an excellent professional relationship with Jennifer Aniston on the making of Derailed.
“If I was creepy, or if I had made her uncomfortable, she would have told her manager, agent, or director who would have handled something like that. We never had any instances like that – ever.”
Aniston’s stance highlights the complexity of evaluating individuals’ actions in a world where social media amplifies public judgments and swift condemnations.
This interview marks another instance in which Aniston has weighed in on pressing societal matters.
Earlier, she acknowledged that some aspects of the hit show Friends, in which she starred, might not be viewed favourably through a contemporary lens.
She recognised that changing sensitivities requires a careful consideration of content that might be perceived as offensive by today’s standards.
