Jeremy Renner has revealed why he thinks he briefly died after his horrific snowplow accident.

Renner is opening up about the life-altering moments that followed his devastating snowplow accident.

In his candid new memoir, My Next Breath, the actor offers a firsthand account of the traumatic incident that occurred over two years ago, and the profound impact it had on his life – both physically and spiritually.

The Marvel star, widely known for his role as Hawkeye, suffered more than 30 broken bones in the accident that took place on New Year’s Day, 2023.

Among the numerous severe injuries he endured, Renner reveals that he reached a point where he genuinely believed he had died while waiting for emergency medical personnel to arrive.

“As I lay on the ice, my heart rate slowed, and right there, on that New Year’s Day, unknown to my daughter, my sisters, my friends, my father, my mother, I just got tired,” Renner writes, per NBC.

Describing the moment in chilling detail, he explains the sheer physical toll of trying to survive in the freezing conditions.

“After about thirty minutes on the ice of breathing manually for so long, an effort akin to doing ten or twenty push-ups per minute for half an hour… that’s when I died.”

He emphasizes the surreal moment further, stating plainly: “I died, right there on the driveway to my house.”

While the injuries from the accident were serious, including major blood loss and fractures, Renner underscores that the immediate danger wasn’t just internal damage, but also the extreme cold.

Hypothermia posed a critical threat as he lay exposed to the elements, barely conscious.

The Mayor of Kingstown actor, father to 12-year-old Ava, recalls his loved ones doing their best to help him until paramedics arrived.

He recounts the moment his vital signs became dangerously low.

“I know I died — in fact, I’m sure of it,” he shares. “When the EMTs arrived, they noted that my heart rate had bottomed out at 18, and at 18 beats per minute, you’re basically dead.”

Renner also describes what he felt during what he believes was a temporary death.

“When I died, what I felt was energy, a constantly connected, beautiful and fantastic energy,” he wrote.

“There was no time, place, or space… just electric, two-way vision made from strands of that inconceivable energy.”

He likens the experience to being suspended in space, describing it as ‘an entirely beautiful place’ filled with what he calls ‘electric serenity’ — peaceful, timeless, and deeply connected.

“For the first time ever, my existence has nothing to do with time,” Renner reflected. “It was an entirely beautiful place, filled with a knowable magic.”
