Jill Jacobson Has Died
Jill Jacobson, a celebrated actress known for her roles in iconic television series over a career spanning four decades, has passed away at the age of 70.
According to her friend Dan Harary, Jacobson died on December 8 at Cedars-Sinai’s Culver West Health Center in Culver City, California.
Jacobson’s most notable television roles included playing Erin Jones in Falcon Crest, appearing in 22 episodes between 1985 and 1987.
She also portrayed Larue Wilson in eight episodes of The New Gidget from 1986 to 1987.
Furthermore, Jacobson made appearances in the Star Trek universe, playing Vanessa in Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1989 and Aroya in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1996.
Her colleague Caryn Richman, who worked with her on The New Gidget, praised Jacobson’s comedic timing and vibrant personality, describing their time together as ‘joyful.’
In addition to her television achievements, Jacobson appeared in a variety of films. She was featured in the 1984 Ron Howard hit Splash, alongside Tom Hanks, as well as The Jigsaw Murders in 1989.
Her last film credit was for Merrily, a drama directed by Robert McAtee, which is set to release next year.
Jacobson’s career began after she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Radio, TV, and Film.
She moved to Los Angeles, where she debuted as the titular character in the 1977 horror movie Nurse Sherri.
Apart from acting, Jacobson was an accomplished stand-up comedian, performing regularly at renowned Los Angeles venues like The Comedy Store and The Improv.
Outside of her professional life, Jacobson was dedicated to philanthropic work, volunteering for the American Cancer Society.
In a recent interview on The Jim Masters Show on YouTube, she shared her three-year battle with esophageal cancer, describing it as a profound challenge that left her unable to function for a time.
Despite the ordeal, Jacobson expressed immense gratitude and a desire to help others.
She stated: “Now I’m so grateful, I just want to keep going, I want to help people. It makes you want to help people.”
Jacobson is remembered fondly by her family, friends, and colleagues for her positivity and energy.
Harary noted she will be missed not only by loved ones but also by her cherished dogs, Benny and Kowalski.
