Actress Kirstie Alley Has Died
Emmy-winning actress Kirstie Alley has died aged 71.
She played Rebecca Howe in Cheers, and also appeared in films such as the Look Who’s Talking series, It Takes Two and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.
In 1993, Alley won an Emmy for her role in Cheers.
She went on to win a second Emmy for Best Lead Actress for the CBS TV movie, David’s Mother.

Alley’s passing was confirmed in a statement from her children on December 5.
Her family stated that she had recently been diagnosed with cancer and had been treated at Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.
The statement read: “To all our friends, far and wide around the world … We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.
“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

It continued: “We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care.
“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.
“We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Tributes have been pouring in for the actress.
John Travolta, who co-starred in the film Look Who’s Talking and its sequel Look Who’s Talking Too, shared a tribute on social media.
He wrote: “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
Jamie Lee Curtis, who shared screentime with Alley on Scream Queens, also reacted on Instagram.
She wrote: “I’ve just heard the sad news that Kirstie Alley has died.
“She was a great comic foil in Scream Queens and a beautiful mama bear in her very real life.
“She helped me buy onesies for my family that year for Christmas.
“We agreed to disagree about some things but had a mutual respect and connection. Sad news.”

Frozen actor Josh Gad took to Twitter to say: “My heart breaks for Kirstie and her family.
“Whether it was her brilliance in Cheers or her magnetic performance in the Look Who’s Talking franchise, her smile was always infectious, her laugh was always contagious and her charisma was always iconic. RIP.”
Actress Kirsten Chenoweth shared photos with Alley on the set of Kirstie and captioned the Instagram post: “I love you, Kirstie. I will see you again someday. I can’t believe you’re gone.”
Alley’s former husband, actor Parker Stevenson, added: “I am so grateful for our years together and for the two incredibly beautiful children and now grandchildren that we have.
“You will be missed.”
