Robbery homicide cops are reportedly investigating Matthew Perry’s death despite there being no indication of foul play.

The Friends star is believed to have drowned in his jacuzzi on October 28 following a cardiac arrest.

Perry had reportedly returned home from a game of picketball and sent his assistant out on an errand and when she returned hours later she found the star unresponsive in the hot tub, as per The Mirror.

Investigators said they believed no foul play was involved in Perry’s death and additionally, no illegal drugs were found at the scene.

An autopsy has been conducted but examiners are waiting on the results of the toxicology reports in order to determine Perry’s cause of death, as reported by CNN.

Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has reportedly updated its online record for Perry, listing his cause of death as ‘deferred’.

“In cases where the cause of death cannot be determined at the time of autopsy, a deferred certificate will be issued until additional studies have been completed,” states the LA coroner’s guidelines.

According to TMZ, Perry’s death is now being investigated by LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) – which may come as a surprise as initial reports claim there was no suspicious activity.

However, this is just standard procedure for high-profile cases as the RHD ‘has the experience and manpower necessary’ to handle such situations.

The LAPD told the outlet that the division is just making sure there was nothing ‘nefarious’ involved with The Whole Nine Yards star’s death and that they can rule out any suspicion.

In the past, Perry had been open about his struggles with alcohol and drug use – stating at one point he couldn’t watch Friends back as it reminded him of his addictions.

Speaking on Q With Tom Power in November 2022, he explained: “I didn’t watch the show and haven’t watched the show because I could go drinking… opiates… drinking… cocaine. Like I could tell season by season by how I looked.

“And I don’t think anybody else can, but I certainly could. And that’s why I don’t want to watch it because that’s what I see, that’s what I noticed when I watch it.”

This is something Perry touched upon in his memoir ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing’, where he said that if he was skinny, he was taking pills, but if he had put on weight he was drinking.

The Fools Rush In star added that if he had a goatee, he was on ‘lots of pills’.

Elsewhere on his Q With Tom Power appearance, Perry was asked how he wanted to be remembered.

The star responded: “The best thing about me, bar none, is that if somebody comes to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking, can you help me?’ I can say ‘yes’ and follow up and do it.”

The Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip actor added that he wanted to be remembered ‘as somebody who lived well, loved well, was a seeker’ and that ‘his paramount thing is that he wants to help people’.

“That’s what I want,” he said.

Perry’s heartbroken family released a statement to People magazine following the news of his death, describing him as a ‘beloved son and brother’.

“Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend,” it read. “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
