Lucy Markovic Has Died Aged 27
Lucy Markovic has tragically died at age 27.
The model first stepped into the public eye in 2015 as a contestant on the ninth season of Australia’s Next Top Model, a show inspired by Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model.
She later walked runways for prestigious fashion houses such as Armani and Versace, and featured in high-profile advertising campaigns.
News of Markovic’s untimely death was confirmed by her agency, Elite Model Management.
Elite Model Management expressed deep sorrow at the loss, referring to Markovic as ‘a bright shining light.’
The agency added: “Modeling was one of Lucy’s dreams, and we are deeply honored to have been part of that journey with her.
“She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself – her warmth, her laughter, her light.”
The fashion industry has responded with an outpouring of love and tributes.
Donatella Versace, now a brand ambassador for the fashion house she once helmed, posted on Instagram: “I am so sorry to hear the news about @lucymarkovicc… Rest in peace, beautiful girl.”
Markovic’s Australian agency, Kult Australia, also honored her memory with a touching tribute: “Today, we lost a star… She was radiant, warm, and a beautiful soul.”
Just hours before her death was made public, Markovic’s official Instagram account had posted an emotional update revealing that she was ‘battling for her life.’
“Full flood of emotions in this time,” she wrote. “Life’s a journey and I’m ready for the next chapter.”
According to the statement released by her agency, Markovic had been dealing with a rare and serious brain condition.
Just three weeks before her passing, the model shared a vulnerable moment with her followers on Instagram.
Markovic revealed that she was scheduled to undergo surgery for a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a dangerous condition involving tangled blood vessels that can cause seizures and potentially lead to stroke.
In her post, she described the AVM as being ‘the size of a golf ball’ and included a hospital photo and a scan, as per CNN. The post appears to have since been deleted.
