What ‘Mugshot Beauty’ Looks Like Now Years After Going Viral
Former criminal Sara Jane Isbister, also known as ‘mugshot beauty,’ has revealed what she looks like many years after first going viral for her infamous Florida mugshots.
While few of us will (hopefully) ever be made to take a mugshot, I imagine it’s similar to the kind of experience you have attempting to get a passport picture.
They’re rarely flattering, you can’t smile, and the whole ordeal feels pretty unnatural.
But not for Sara Isbister, whose mugshot at just 21 years old was an unconventional catalyst for a life in the public eye.
She quickly gained the nickname ‘mugshot beauty,’ but speaking out many years on from the insane experience, Sara has opened up about the chilling dark side to her notoriety.
Who is ‘mugshot beauty?’
Sara was 21 when she was propelled into the spotlight, after what she now describes as ‘reckless’ behaviour in her early adulthood.
Now 34, she claims that all of her issues had stemmed from ‘using drugs,’ which she has now left behind her.
Sara was arrested six times in 2011, for an array of crimes including theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, giving a false ID to a law enforcement officer, and various other probation violations.
The now-artist has since opened up in an interview with The Sun, where she talked about her father’s influence on her troubled past.
At the age of 18, she worked as a server in Hooters, before moving onto cocktail waitressing, and eventually stripping.
The 34-year-old said: “When I was using drugs and stripping, the future was not the first thing I was thinking about.
“I didn’t realise there were real consequences at that age. I was just so reckless. I just wanted to be the baddest of the baddest.
“I had no idea how much this was going to screw things up for me. This is all people are going to know me for now. But then I kept doing stupid things.”
Compared to Angelina Jolie
Columnist Perez Hilton ran a story about Sara when she was just 22, comparing her to Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie.
But the new-found stardom wasn’t all glitz and glamour like it may have appeared from the outside.
Sara opened up about going onto receive death threats, including a rumor that she had committed a far worse crime than any she really had.
Rumors circulated that she had been involved with the killing of house pets and lighting a house on fire – both of which she says are completely made up.
She admitted that she’s ‘just another normal girl who has hobbies and dreams like everybody else.’
Sara added: “Except my past has been thrown in my face because it has been publicly leaked onto the internet.
“I wasn’t thinking to myself, ‘I’ll go and commit this crime and I’ll have my picture taken. It’ll get on the internet and I’ll get some sort of attention from this.'”
She began receiving fan mail
In and amongst the chaos of the new-found fame, Sara spoke about the real life consequences it had for her – including disturbing fan mail from convicts.
Speaking candidly, she said: “There was one murder guy who was really cool to be honest.”
Sara said he encouraged her to ‘live this life while you’re young, just get out of it.’
She added: “He was actually pretty nice and encouraging, he even put a picture of himself in there.”
But one convicted murderer became obsessed with her.
She explained: “He wrote at least five letters to me and then he would get really angry at me when I didn’t write him back.
“He was a creep and a weirdo. It was scary because these people were sending the mail to my home, so they knew where I lived.”
But Sara’s now living a very different life.
The ‘mugshot beauty’ now
As per Linkedin, Sara now describes herself as a ‘multi-faceted, award-winning visual artist with a fearless approach to brand marketing’ with 10 years of customer care experience.’
Speaking about her past, she added: “I was raised with morals and values but I was just so edgy, everything had to be more and more hardcore.”
Now committed to a career in the arts, including writing, she admits wishing she had devoted more time to it during her young adult years.
