Celeste Wilson Has Died
Mississippi news anchor Celeste Wilson has died at the age of 42, as devastated colleagues say she was a ‘joy to be around.’
Wilson began her broadcasting career at a CBS affiliate in LA, and had worked at several other local news stations.
She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, and later studied for her master’s degree in journalism at Arizona State University.
The journalist had been working at WAPT for just a short period of time before her tragic death.
The mom-of-one’s colleagues have said that she would ‘light up any room.’
The president and general manager at WAPT, Peter Keith, wrote an editorial post on Friday praising Wilson, who had recently joined the newsroom.
The news station confirmed her death earlier last week (August 27).

Keith wrote: “I can tell you she was an absolute joy to be around – a consummate professional with a smile that would light up a room.
“In our newsroom, she brought warmth and high standards, elevating not just stories but also the people around her.”
Megan West, a colleague of Wilson, also paid tribute to the news anchor.
“She was new to our team and so lovely,” she wrote in a post on Facebook.
“We chatted about how she was adjusting to morning show hours and life a few hours from her home in Louisiana.
“I treasure the memory of this last, sweet conversation.”
The National Association of Black Journalists also paid tribute to the 42-year-old, whose real name was Dorothea Celeste Wilson.
They noted: “NABJ mourns the loss of Dorothea Celeste Wilson.
“Her colleagues at WAPT say she recently joined the news team as a weekend anchor and unexpectedly passed away.
“Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.”
Heartfelt tributes flooded in, as one said: “So very sad she was so young and pretty.
“Condolences to her family. Rip beautiful.”
Another added: “Sending prayers for healing for all those who knew and loved her!”

It’s been made known that Wilson’s official cause of death was a heart attack, despite appearing in good health during her broadcast just a day prior.
The news station added: “Though Celeste had only been with us a short time, we were already touched by her professionalism, warmth, and dedication to the work of journalism.”
A meteorologist from the news channel, Christana Kay, said: “It is a numb feeling.
“We are in shock. We are heartbroken. From seeing Celeste on Monday to hearing the news of a heart attack, it does not seem real that this happened.
“Celeste was a bright light in a dark room and always shone.
“Please pray for her family. This world lost someone loving and caring and passionate in everything she does.”
