People Are Saying Justin Timberlake Is Owed An Apology After Revealing Diagnosis
Justin Timberlake’s recent revelation about his ‘debilitating’ diagnosis has sparked a growing chorus calling for an apology.
The 44-year-old pop star shared the news via Instagram on Thursday, explaining that he had been battling the bacterial infection throughout his Forget Tomorrow world tour, which concluded in Turkey on Wednesday.
His candid post has completely reframed the narrative around his recent lackluster stage performances, which had drawn harsh criticism from audiences and social media users, Page Six reports.
Prior to Timberlake’s health revelation, the singer faced a barrage of negative feedback about his tour performances.
Viral TikTok videos showed him appearing tired, engaging in minimal dancing, and rarely bringing the microphone to his mouth during songs.
The comments were brutal. “Go on girl, give us nothing,” wrote one social media user about a compilation video.
Another fan complained: “I get that you have a lot of concerts and are touring the world, or whatever, but you cannot be singing less than a quarter of a song.”
Some audience members were even more direct, with comments like: “When are the audience getting paid for their performance?” and: “Justin Timberlake really thought he could do the bare minimum and get away with it?”

Timberlake’s Instagram statement painted a very different picture of what was happening behind the scenes.
“If you’ve experienced this disease or know someone who has — then you’re aware: living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically,” he wrote.
The Grammy winner explained that his diagnosis helped him understand ‘why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.’
Despite facing the choice between stopping his tour or pushing through, Timberlake chose to continue performing, saying: “The joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling.”
The singer’s decision to go public with his diagnosis was motivated by a desire for transparency.
“I was reluctant to talk about this because I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself,” he admitted. “But I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren’t misinterpreted.”

Timberlake’s wife, Jessica Biel, showed her support by reposting his health announcement to her Instagram Story.
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection spread by infected ticks that can cause a range of symptoms, including severe fatigue, nerve pain, joint problems, and cognitive difficulties, per ABC.
Dr. Sanjay Mehta, a GP at the London General Practice, explains to The Independent that the disease can manifest in various ways, from being asymptomatic to causing severe nerve damage.
In advanced stages, patients can experience long-term joint problems and neurological symptoms that can persist for months or years.
Timberlake joins other celebrities, including Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, and Alec Baldwin, who have publicly shared their battles with the condition, helping to raise awareness about this often misunderstood illness.

Following the revelation, many fans have taken to social media demanding apologies from those who mocked the singer’s performances.
The sentiment has been particularly strong on platforms where the criticism was harshest.
“I hope people who have been giving Justin Timberlake s*** because of his performances feel like absolute a**holes right now,” wrote one supporter.
Another added: “If you made a video to ‘be funny’ and mocked him, you owe him an apology.”
One particularly passionate fan defended the singer’s efforts: “And before y’all get on here with your sloppy takes, there isn’t a single person on this app that could get on stage for 100s of shows, 2 hours a night, back to back, while having a debilitating illness. So shut the f** up when you’re talking about Justin Timberlake.”
Fans have also flooded his comments with well-wishes and gratitude for his honesty.
As one fan put it: “You’re a legend! Thank you for everything you have done over the years. Enjoy your time with the family and rest up.”
