Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Could Lose Family Home Over One Huge ‘Mistake’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could reportedly lose their $14 million mansion over one huge ‘mistake’.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals and departed from their British residence Frogmore Cottage in 2020.
They started afresh in the US, snapping up a Montecito mansion with 16 bedrooms and sprawling land.
Prince Harry and Markle have raised their two young children, Archie and Lilibet, on the Californian estate.
In an interview with The Cut, the duchess said the property is ‘calm and healing’ and makes her ‘feel free’.
“We did everything we could to get this house,” she told the publication. “Because you walk in and go… Joy. And exhale. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”
Yet recent reports suggest the life Prince Harry has built for himself and his family in the US could be lost.
According to Daily Express, the duke’s visa status in the US could be threatened due to a case brought forward by the Heritage Foundation, which demands details of his application be made public.
The Heritage Foundation, sometimes known as Heritage, is an activist American conservative think tank based in Washington.
“Heritage’s mission is to formulate and promote public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defence,” the website’s description reads.
The think tank is taking action against the Department of Homeland Security to seek access to the duke’s visa records, reports the Daily Express.
The DHS has denied the request, citing privacy protections similar to those for medical records.
Judge Carl Nichols is currently reviewing the matter privately in chambers, leaving Prince Harry and the public waiting on whether the information will be made public.
Prince Harry made an admission in his 2023 memoir ‘Spare’ that would usually impact a person’s right to be allowed in the US.
It’s led the think tank to question whether the duke lied on his visa application or was given special treatment.
In his memoir, Prince Harry admitted to using drugs such as m***juana, magic mushrooms, and c**aine. Of the latter, he wrote: “It wasn’t much fun, and it didn’t make me particularly happy, as it seemed to make everyone around me.
“But it did make me feel different, and that was the main goal.”
Heritage campaigner Nile Gardiner tells The Sun‘s new politics show Never Mind the Ballots that Prince Harry should ‘face the consequences’.
“Without a doubt, if you lie on a US immigration application, it’s a criminal offence, a very serious offence,” he says.
“Under normal circumstances, those individuals would be removed from the United States.
“It’s a deportable offence which is why Donald Trump recently said that he would take appropriate action if Harry had lied.”
Gardiner references former US president Trump saying if he were to be re-elected, he wouldn’t give the duke ‘special privileges’.
Trump said: “We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs.
“If he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action. You would have thought they would have known this a long time ago.”
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams tells The Sun that it’s an ’embarrassing’ situation for the duke and duchess, regardless of whether the prince has been truthful.
“Harry may have included drug use on his application form. If he hasn’t, it will unquestionably make headlines, and that will not be beneficial so far as the Sussexes are concerned,” the expert says.
“I don’t think Harry would have written his memoir ‘Spare’ now, because there’s evidence that the Sussexes have, in fact, beefed up the communications team.”
