Elton John Tells Fans ‘I’ve Lost My Eyesight’ As He’s Taken Off Stage
Elton John recently shared a somber update about his eyesight, sparking concern among his fans.
The legendary British musician, whose career spans over five decades, has enchanted audiences worldwide with his extraordinary talent, vibrant personality, and timeless music.
In addition to his music, Elton has been a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and HIV/AIDS awareness, solidifying his legacy as both an artist and a humanitarian.
However, his recent remarks about his health have prompted worry among his devoted supporters.
The worries about his health began during an exclusive screening of his documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, at the London Film Festival on October 10.
The 77-year-old spoke candidly about his thoughts on aging and his children’s concerns for his health, according to Sky News.
Directed by RJ Cutler and Elton’s husband, David Furnish, the documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at the star’s career and personal life, featuring unseen footage and intimate conversations with collaborators like Bernie Taupin and interactions with stars like Dua Lipa and John Lennon.
The film also chronicles his journey leading up to his final North American concert at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Elton revealed that his sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, have begun to express fears about his mortality.
“They worry about my mortality because they know how old I am,” he said. “Not so much David, but me – they love their Daddy, so they want me to be around forever.”
In an interview with Attitude magazine, Elton expressed how fatherhood transformed his priorities.
“Having the children changed everything for the better because now it’s all about them. It’s all about their welfare and their future,” he shared, describing this chapter as “the most wonderful time” of his life.
The documentary also reveals Elton’s own reflections: “I wonder what is going to happen to all of this stuff when I finish? This is the latter time of my life. I don’t know how much time I have left.”
He admitted that thoughts of mortality cross his mind more frequently now.
“You think, ‘Well, I just want to be where I want to be now,’” he explained, referencing his decision to slow down after concluding his farewell tour.
Despite stepping away from touring, Elton plans to continue creating music and producing radio shows, though he acknowledges the physical toll of his career.
“It is very tiring. I am used to it and I am a veteran at it… but this is where you start to think about mortality.”
According to Page Six, speaking at a separate event on October 1, Elton made further remarks about his health, noting the toll of years on his body.
“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left,” he said, humorously listing the parts he no longer has, including his tonsils, adenoids, appendix, prostate, right hip, left knee, and right knee.
“In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip.”
Despite these challenges, Elton reassured fans, “But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough]; you’re the people that made me.”
Elton also recently shared on Instagram that he’s recovering from a severe eye infection. “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
Earlier this year, Elton disclosed more about the infection that had caused him to lose vision in his right eye.
In a Good Morning America interview, he shared: “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France.”
His remaining vision is also compromised, leaving him unable to engage in everyday activities like reading or watching television.
“It kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything,” he confessed, adding: “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay. But I’m kind of stuck in the moment.”
But this week, at the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical in London’s West End, Sir Elton John stunned the audience with a candid revelation about his declining eyesight.
The music icon, who composed the musical’s score, admitted he could no longer see the stage, saying per The Sun: “I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it.”
Despite his condition, he praised the cast, noting” “It sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming!”
