Karen Silva, who appeared on The Voice Kids in 2020, reached the semi-finals when she was just 12 years old.

The 17-year-old regularly posted covers on social media, performed live, and teased new music.

The young singer was set to have a promising career, with her representative sharing on Instagram: “Karen enchanted Brazil with her powerful voice and striking presence as a child, when she took part in The Voice Kids in 2020.

“Since then, she has followed a luminous path, combining talent, charisma, and representativeness at every step.”

“More than just a promising artist, Karen has been a symbol of empowerment, especially for Black girls who have found in her inspiration and the strength to dream.

“Her music, her message, and her joy leave a deep mark on everyone who knew her and followed her journey.”

Four days before Silva’s death, it was revealed that the 17-year-old was ‘facing a health problem and is currently under medical care, with the support and affection of her family and team.’

The singer had been hospitalized at the São João Batista Hospital in Volta Redonda, Brazil.

The Voice Kids Brazil coach Carlinhos Brown, whose team Silva was on, paid tribute to the young star: “This morning, we were all taken by surprise by the sudden departure of Karen Silva.

“Who has been on the stages of The Voice, been part of our teams, and will leave extremely important memories for all of us.”

Fernando Sérgio da Silva told local media that his daughter had shown ‘no signs of illness.’

He shared: “She left home to have lunch on Friday, and three hours later, she was in a coma. For this year, 2025, we had big plans. For her, her clothing brand, new songs for her album.

“To know my daughter passed like this, it hurts so much. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

Silva’s rep revealed her cause of death was a hemorrhagic stroke.

Cleveland Clinic states that a hemorrhagic stroke is a life-threatening emergency that happens when a blood vessel in the brain breaks (ruptures) and bleeds.

The bleeding disrupts normal circulation in the brain and prevents it from getting the blood and oxygen it needs to survive and function. The stroke also adds extra pressure inside the brain, which can damage or kill brain cells.

Silva is survived by her parents, Manoella and Fernando, and her boyfriend, Marcelo.
