Jessie J Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
Jessie J has shared the shocking news that she has cancer, and has told fans she will be ‘stepping back’ for a while.
The ‘Price Tag’ singer confirmed the news with her fans on Instagram.
Jessie has confirmed she will be having surgery after she performs at Capital’s Summertime Ball festival later this month.
Her shock diagnosis comes after a lot of tests, according to Jessie, who said she has been ‘in and out of tests’ over the last few months.
Jessie has been open about her health problems over the years, and previously shared that she was diagnosed with a heart condition as a child.
She went on to have a stroke as a teenager, and terrifyingly, she went deaf for a time in 2020 due to Meniere’s disease.
The singer was also diagnosed with ADHD and OCD last year.
Jessie, who became a mom in 2023, explained on Instagram that she is hopeful because her diagnosis has come ‘early.’
“Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early,'” she said in a video.
Celebrities and fans alike have rushed to the comment section to share their support.
Presenter Gaby Roslin wrote: “Sending you so much love and enormous hugs.”
Singer Rita Ora praised: “You’re literally my favourite person and I’m praying for you, you’ve got this.
“My mother had it and I know the surgery and any treatment on this matter is mentally tough so I’m here for you. X.”
Other singers, including Leona Lewis, Rochelle and Marvin Humes, have also commented their support to the star.
Jessie said she wanted to be open about her diagnosis in order to process it and to help others.
“I just wanted to be open and share it,” the ‘Bang Bang’ singer explained. “One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard.
“I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.
“It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that’s the bit that kills me.”
She continued: “But honestly I need to process it and talk about it and, I need a hug.
“You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”
Jessie revealed she has breast cancer, joking: “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job.
“I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t*** and more music.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in women in the United States.
