Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Sacrifice’ For Natalie Portman In ‘Thor’ Kiss Scene

Chris Hemsworth made a ‘sacrifice’ for actress Natalie Portman in their kiss scene for Thor: Love and Thunder. 

The actor decided to respect his co-star’s vegan diet by refusing to eat meat on the morning of filming.

Opening up about the gesture, Portman told Capital FM: “He’s really nice. The day we had a kiss scene he didn’t eat meat that morning because I’m vegan.”

The 41-year-old went on to say that she felt this was ‘so thoughtful,’ as she’d not asked him to do so.

“Like, that was so thoughtful. That’s not something I’m angry about or care about, but he was just being thoughtful. He’s just a very nice person,” she told the radio station.

Fellow Thor star Tessa Thompson pitched in at this point, joking that she ‘didn’t even know [Hemsworth] could go without eating meat’.

She added: “He’s just like eating bison in the morning. That’s so sweet.”

Portman turned to a plant-based diet back in 2011 after decades of being a vegetarian. This means that as well as avoiding meat, she now cuts out animal products such as milk, eggs, and honey.

When it came to prepping for her role in Love and Thunder, the actress was told she’d need to ‘get as big as possible’.

“On Black Swan, I was asked to get as small as possible,” she told Variety. “Here, I was asked to get as big as possible. That’s an amazing challenge – and also state of mind as a woman.”

Portman went on to say that the reaction to this was interesting, adding: “To have this reaction and be seen as big, you realise, ‘Oh, this must be so different, to walk through the world like this’.

“When you’re small – and also, I think, because I started as a kid – a lot of times I feel young or little or, like, a pat-on-the-head kind of person. And I present myself that way, too, because of that.”
