Chris Rock is under fire for reportedly making a joke about Nicole Brown Simpson’s death.

According to the Arizona Republic, it all started when the comedian told fans during a comedic stand-up in Phoenix that he’d been asked to host the Oscars again.

Reportedly, Rock joked that he wouldn’t be going back to the Academy Awards, as it would be like asking Simpson ‘to go back to the restaurant’ where she left her eyeglasses before being murdered.

Simpson was stabbed to death in 1994 and her ex-husband, OJ Simpson, stood trial for murder in a highly-publicised case. He was acquitted, which led to a ton of controversy.

Following Rock’s supposed joke, people have taken to Twitter and criticised the 57-year-old.

One tweeted: “Yeah that joke was dumb and I’m not a fan of overt sensitivity but c’mon now.”

“This is why Will did what he did. Yet again, Chris targeted a woman to be the butt of a joke for something that’s not funny. But Will is the bully. Oh. OK,” another fumed.

A third weighed in, writing: “Chris Rock comparing the brutal murder of Nicole Brown Smith to him being slapped on stage is very… interesting.”

TMZ reports that Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister, Tanya Brown, has also slammed the joke.

The news outlet claims Tanya said it was ‘unfunny’ and like ‘comparing apple to oranges’.

Reportedly, she went on to say that Rock should have used another type of analogy to make his point clear.

Rock is yet to address the backlash.
