ITV has confirmed that I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will be returning for its 20th series this year, after the TV industry was thrown into chaos by the coronavirus pandemic.
After COVID-19 raised questions on whether or not the ITV flagship show would be returning on-screen for its 20th series, bosses have finally confirmed that the show will be airing.
In addition to the series, a special one-off documentary will be aired called I’m A Celebrity: A Jungle Story, which will be celebrating the show’s best moments throughout its 19-year history.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the show bosses were concerned that the pandemic would make filming this year impossible.
According to The Sun, insiders were unsure how the show would be able to go ahead following the chaos of COVID-19.
At the time, a source commented: “I’m A Celebrity is six months away but bosses are holding meetings about how they can ensure it still goes ahead in the current climate. A raft of measures are being looked at.
“One of the most recent plans was to employ a crew that is 95 per cent made up of Australian workers to overcome the issues surrounding flying to different countries and the quarantine restrictions.
“This would mean a lot of the show’s UK crew missing out on their annual big gig but ITV are having to seriously consider every option.”
The insider then added that due to the changing nature of the pandemic, every possible scenario was being planned for.
As the show has continued to be a rating winner, bosses insisted they were considering anything to make the show air this year.
The source went on to say that the safety and welfare of the crew are the absolute top priority for the bosses.
Although the series is still quite a few months away, there a number of celebrities which have already been rumoured to have been signed up by ITV bosses. However, the latest reports suggest that those who are entering the jungle will need to face a two-week quarantine prior to arriving.
I’m A Celebrity Rumoured Line-Up…
1. Vernon Kay
The former Family Fortunes and T4 presenter has been rather quiet over the last few years but according to The Mirror, he has apparently signed a £250,000 deal to take part in the 20th series.
If he does appear on the show, Vernon will be on TV at the exact same time as his wife, Tess Daly, who hosts Strictly Come Dancing.
2. Carole Baskin
Star of the Netflix hit documentary Tiger King, before last year barely any of us had heard of the animal activist. Yet now she is one of the biggest names to be linked to the popular ITV show.
According to The Sun, bosses have approached the star with a big-money offer yet she is apparently mulling over whether or not to go on Dancing With The Stars in the US instead.
3. AJ Pritchard
The former Strictly professional shocked fans earlier this year by announcing he was quitting the BBC ballroom. The following month later, it was rumoured that he was in talks with ITV bosses to enter the jungle. Whilst on Channel 4’s The Steph Show, he did little to deny this.
He said: “Well, let me put it like this, I’ve just cleaned out the loft as my mum has a list of jobs for us to do. The amount of spiders up there, I was screaming my head off. So, if anything like that did happen, it would be hilarious – that’s for sure!”
4. Beverly Callard
Coronation Street legend Liz McDonald is set to leave the soap within the upcoming months, which means that actress Beverly Callard will have plenty of time on hours to take on a new TV project.
5. Jessie J
Popstar Jessie J has served as a judge on both UK and Australia’s music show competition The Voice, yet ITV bosses are now hoping she will switch spinning chairs for life in the jungle.
According to The Sun, the star has been offered “good money” to appear as a contestant on the show but a source close to her says she’s not sure it’s “for her”.
6. Paul Merson
Ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has also been linked to the show, with The Sun suggesting he is looking at relaunching his career through the TV industry after watching Harry Redknapp have so much success.
7. John Barnes
Barnes is another former footballer who is linked to the show. The England legend – who has previously been a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother – has said: “From the point of view of eating anything, I eat everything and anything, so from that point of view I would do it.
“Lying around doing nothing much, I quite fancy so I’d probably look at it as a bit of a holiday.
“I would do it, yeah.”
8. Eric Cantona
Manchester United star Eric Cantona is another big footballer name that is rumoured to be entering the jungle.
I’m A Celebrity boss Richard Cowles said that Eric would be his dreamt contestant when in talks with The Sun, he said: “I just like the idea of Eric Cantona talking in French and coming up with really profound things. That would be good.”\
9. The Vivienne
RuPaul Drag Race UK’s winner of 2019, The Vivienne, is rumoured to be one of the stars the ITV bosses have been keen to get on the show.
During a recent interview on ITV’s Lorraine, she told the presenter: “Do you know what, I’ve never even thought about it really but what an absolutely amazing opportunity that would be!
“I’m petrified of spiders but get me to that jungle, I’d do it! What a great life opportunity that I’m never going to get again… I am all for that!”
10. Matt Baker
Matt Baker signed off in the spring from a 10-year stint on The One Show and although he still he has commitments to the Countryfile, he has been tipped to be starring on I’m A Celebrity by the bookies.
Although the bookmakers are not the most official indication of who will be taking part, he didn’t completely dismiss the idea in an interview with Hello magazine.
He said: “I haven’t had any conversations yet.
“I am reluctant to say no to anything without having a good think about it.”
