Rachel Riley was left red-faced as she struggled to contain her laughter after she spelt out a rude word on Countdown.

On a recent episode of the popular gameshow, the co-presenter had to spell ‘urinates’ in the first round after one contestant and current champion, Quinn Barlett, revealed he had an 8-pointer.

Co-host Colin Murray remarked: “Interesting first round…”

Despite Barlett’s surprising choice, it proved to be enough as his opponent, Leome Francis, could only come up with a 6-word answer, which was ‘purist’.

Fans of the show reacted to the latest episode on social media, with one fan on Twitter writing: “All 4 has always been a quality streaming service.”

This is not the first time Riley has had to spell out a rude word on the gameshow, having previously had the terms ‘vagina’ and ‘gobs****’.

She has hosted the long-running gameshow since 2008 when she took over from Carol Vorderman.

‘Countdown’s’ Rachel Riley Left ‘Red-Faced’ After Spelling Out Rude Word

Countdown has been in the news recently as it was revealed that Les Dennis will come in as the new guest host, while the show continues to search for a permanent replacement for Anne Robinson after she departed earlier on in the year.

He is set to start in early August, while current presenter Murray will return later in the year.

Robinson left the show after only being hired as the main presenter last year.

However, she cited the reason behind her resignation as being there ‘longer than she signed up for’.

This comes after rumours of herself and Riley feuding behind the scenes, however, the pair were quick to deny it, with Robinson saying: “She is brilliant. Absolutely honestly, I do admire her – she is really, really good at what she does.”
