A dad has managed to transform his garden shed into a simple yet trendy gin bar called ‘The Lockdown’ and once the lockdown is actually over, he plans to celebrate in his bar by having family and friends over.
Dan Pierce decided to put his DIY skills to the test when he realised that with all his spare time in lockdown, it would be a fun idea to makeover his garden shed.
Alongside his wife Wendy and their two boys, they discussed all the possibilities. The boys thought it would be great to turn it into a game room whereas Wendy thought an exercise room would be practical. Yet Dan’s heart was set on turning it into a gin bar and he already had the vision in his mind.
Knowing that one day it would be perfect for parties and having friends over, he would make it into a gin bar and name it ‘The Lockdown’.
Dan told Daily Star: “I have named the bar ‘The Lockdown’. Now I just need lockdown to be over to throw the biggest party.
“I’ve always wanted a bar, growing up my parents had a bar and were well-known for throwing the best parties.
“We had a family meeting at the start of lockdown to decide what the garden shed should be.
“My two boys wanted a gaming room, my wife Wendy wanted a room to do her gym sessions and I wanted my very own bar.”
Inspired by musical icons such as David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse and John Lennon, Dan opted for a musical theme.
However, before he could dedicate the bar to his favourite artists Dan had to sort the practicalities out first.
To begin with, he had no choice but to replaster all the walls, install new electrics, lay down some new flooring and fit in some new lighting. In the end, Dan chose a classy dark blue paint for his feature wall and styled it with trendy copper accessories.
To make sure everyone was happy about the bar, Dan made some compromises. He added: “At one end of the room, I fitted storage for gym equipment, gaming devices and a TV for the boys and Wendy’s gym sessions.”
The main feature of Dan’s completed bar is certainly the incredible piece of artwork on the bar itself.
The handy dad painted the original artwork by himself and it turned out looking like it had cost quite a pretty penny!
