A dad’s simple act of support towards his gay son has gone viral.
John Wyatt has put a huge rainbow flag up outside his home to signal to his neighbourhood that his son, Cayden, is gay and proud.
In an interview with Buzzfeed News, the teen’s dad explained: “There’s a lot of Q flags in our neighborhood, a lot of Trump flags and Blue Lives Matter Flags. You don’t see any pride flags at all.”
Caden added: “I’m really lucky to have such supportive parents, because I know a lot of other people aren’t as lucky as me.”
Originally, John admitted that he wasn’t always supportive of the LGBTQ community due to being raised in a conservative and religious lifestyle.
However, when his wife pointed out that their son could potentially be gay, the 45-year-old began questioning his own attitude.
“That’s when we really started embracing [the community], because we knew our son was gay, and at any time he could come out,” John explained. “And he needed to see that we were going to be able to support him and be there for him.”

Cayden hopes that the flag will let people know his dad is an ‘ally’.
He added: “I want people to know that my parents have their back, and so do I.”
The former national president of PFLAG, Nancy McDonald, told Buzzfeed that hanging a pride flag outside the home can be really meaningful for LGBTQ children.
She explained: “If you need a symbol, a flag like that, that’s fine.
“I choose to use the rainbow flag because that tells people, yes, that’s a family that supports their gay child.”
