Jermaine Cannon was a murderer on death row who uttered some chilling final words in his final moments.

Cannon was placed on death row after he murdered 20-year-old mother-of-two Sharonda Clark in 1995.

He had been sharing an apartment with her in Tulsa after breaking out of prison just weeks before – where he was serving a 15-year service after he assaulted another woman with a claw hammer, iron and kitchen toaster before r**ing her.

Clark’s body was then found when a relative had reported her as missing after she did not pick up her children from daycare.

She was found with three stab wounds on her neck – later to be confirmed from a butcher’s knife – with authorities at the time claiming that she had died during a ‘violent struggle.’

Cannon was later tracked down in Flint, Michigan, where he had stayed with his uncle.

But it was Cannon’s mother who had reportedly convinced him to turn himself into the police after he shared that Clark was dead.

28 years later, at the age of 51, the murderer received the lethal injection at Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester at 10am on July 20.

He passed 13 minutes later, but before he died, he was asked if he had any last words.

In response, Cannon said (via The Mirror): “Yes, I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. Therefore I am saved. Thank you.”

The day before his execution, a last-minute appeal from Cannon was put forward.

He was looking for a stay of execution claiming that he was Native American and not subject to Oklahoma jurisdiction, along with other things.

However, this was turned down by a federal appeals court.

Up until his final days, he insisted that he killed Clark as an act of self-defence.

Speaking to the parole board, via a video feed from the state penitentiary, he said: “I am deeply disheartened that the act of defending my life and the acts that she initiated against me ever happened.

“The ending of human life was never desired, planned or premeditated.”

Despite his pleas for clemency, they were denied.

Clark’s daughter said: “Relief for my family, relief for my sister’s pain, relief for my grandmother that didn’t make it to see this day.”
