Patricia Heaton believes Disney has made a ‘huge mistake’ when it comes to the children’s Lightyear movie.

The Everybody Loves Raymond star took to Twitter on June 14 and slammed the media company for replacing Tim Allen with Chris Evans.

She wrote: “Saw the trailer for Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen.”

She added: “Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?”

Heaton’s post has been retweeted more than 4,000 times and thousands have responded.

One tweeted: “You’re saying they castrated the character by replacing a nearly 70-year-old voice actor with Captain America?”

Hilariously, another joked: “Nobody tell her Michael Keaton isn’t Batman anymore either, no telling who she’ll sterilise next.”

“I think she is just being supportive of her friend. But yeah, it’s pretty silly in perspective of the world,” a third mused.

Defending Heaton, another added: “He’s not woke enough for the new Disney.”

Many also took to the comments and pointed out that Lightyear actually focuses on another version of Buzz Lightyear.

As explained by director Angus MacLane, the new movie is meant to be something ‘maybe Andy [the child in Toy Story] may have seen’.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “In the Toy Story universe, [Lightyear] would be like a movie that maybe Andy would have seen, that would have made him want a Buzz Lightyear figure.”

After being made aware of this, Heaton took to Twitter once again and defended her original tweet.

She said: “Okay, so the current Buzz Lightyear movie is an origin story – but the reason the character became so beloved is because of what Tim Allen created.

“Why remove the one element that makes us want to see it? #stupidhollywooddecisions.”
