People are saying that ‘everyone should see’ a disturbing movie which left viewers genuinely traumatised.

Film buffs are taking to social media and discussing the best movies and TV shows everyone should watch.

Recently, people have had praise for Big Boys Don’t Cry on Netflix, with viewers dubbing it ‘heartbreaking’.

While others have enjoyed I Came By, which has even received praise from bestselling author Stephen King.

However, there is another film that has recently got everyone talking due to its disturbing plot.

Released in 2000, Requiem For a Dream stars Jared Leto (Suicide Squad), Jennifer Connolly (Top Gun: Maverick), and Marlon Waynes (White Chicks).

It is an adaptation of the 1978 novel of the same name (written by Hubert Selby Jr) and was directed by Darren Aronofsky.

It follows four characters who are all affected by drug addiction and viewers get to witness how it affects their physical and mental well-being.

Throughout the film, the characters begin to deteriorate and start suffering from delusion, which leads them to make some disastrous choices.

Requiem For a Dream has reemerged in public discussions after Uberfacts asked its 13.6 million followers on Twitter to name a movie that is ‘genuinely traumatic’.

In response, one fan wrote: “I still shudder when I hear Requiem for a Dream.”

“I found this s*** traumatic even before I started doing drugs,” admitted another. 

While someone else said: “This is the first movie that comes to mind for me.

“I saw it once about 20 years ago and it was enough for a lifetime.”

“I was literally scrolling comments looking for this one. I don’t know how many times I watched it but it f***ed me up a little worse each time,” a fourth commented.

The film was a critical success, with IMDb placing it in their top 100 films of all time.

Requiem For a Dream was one of Aronofsky’s first films and he has since made a name for himself as a director who makes hard-hitting, bleak movies, such as Black Swan and Mother!.

He is currently back in the limelight with his latest film, The Whale, which stars Brendan Fraser who plays a 600-pound man who is trying to reconcile with his teenage daughter. 

Since debuting at film festivals earlier this year, it has generated a lot of Oscar buzz, with calls for both the actor and director to pick up the prestigious gold statue come awards season.
