Dr Alex Proves What A ‘Real Influencer Looks Like’ As He’s Named Government’s Youth Mental Health Ambassador

Dr Alex has been appointed as the government’s youth mental health ambassador by Boris Johnson.

Love Island star Dr Alex has become the government’s youth mental health ambassador.

The move will see the frontline worker join forces with Prime Minister Borris Johnson to help improve education and support for young people across schools, colleges and universities in the UK.

Mr Johnson announced the news on Twitter, saying: “I’m delighted to announce that we have appointed @DrAlexGeorge to be our Youth Mental Health Ambassador.

“Young people have sacrificed so much during this pandemic and we are going to do everything we can to support them.”

Dr Alex has become a passionate online campaigner for mental wellbeing, as he tragically lost his own brother to suicide last July.

The Love Island star explained it was one of the reasons he decided to take on the important role, saying: “I lost my brother this summer, he was 19, about to go to medical school, and we were incredibly proud of him as a family and sadly he took his own life. And I think the pressures of this pandemic played a huge part.”

Announcing the news on Twitter, he said: “The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has appointed me as the ambassador for mental health.

“I will be working with the government to make mental health a priority for both current and future generations.

“Now more than ever, we realise how fundamental this is. It’s time for change.”

The unpaid role will involve Dr Alex examining what support is already available to schools, colleges and university and advising the government on how this can be improved.
