Edwina Currie has been criticised for her appearance on Good Morning Britain after she suggested putting foil down radiators to help during the cost of living crisis.

The former MP appeared on the daytime TV programme and offered advice to those dealing with the rising energy prices.

Referencing financial journalist Martin Lewis, Currie said: “Here’s one of my suggestions for a tip, something that’s dirt cheap, Martin knows about this sort of thing, you put some of this [foil] behind your radiators, it really works, it makes the whole room nice and warm and it means you can turn down your thermostat without it causing you any more discomfort.”

Currie also told viewers that they should ‘not get emotional’ about the cost of living crisis.

Lewis, who was guest hosting the show and has constantly criticised the government for the way they have handled the energy crisis, had his hands in his head when he heard Currie’s suggestion.

The 75-year-old also provided other advice, such as moving sofas away from the radiator.

This latest piece of advice comes after former Prime Minister Boris Johnson suggested that people ‘should buy a new kettle’ to save money.

People on social media were quick to react to her comments, expressing their anger at Currie by saying she is ‘missing the point’.

One wrote: Thanks Edwina, that’s really going to make a difference to a 3 grand bill. Nothing worse than the wealthy telling poor people how to save money.”

“People like her should not be given airtime to mislead the public,” replied another.

A third user tweeted: “My god, can any more conservatives get any more condescending? Not very often it happens but I’m speechless. They are so rich they have no concept of reality that we just don’t have the extra money to pay.”
