Elliot Page, who has said he ‘knew he was a boy’ even as a toddler, believes ‘horrible Republican lies’ will lead to ‘trans children dying’.

The actor, who came out as trans last year, claimed to Oprah Winfrey in his Vanity Fair interview that the political party is ‘spreading misinformation and lies about transgender people’.

The 34-year-old explained: “What you are hearing from certain lawmakers is lies, in terms of what they’re saying about the healthcare.

“The reality of the healthcare is it’s supported by medical institutions and it saves lives. If you are going to [ban it], and if you are going to ban trans people from sports, children will die.

“It’s that simple. It’s really that simple.”

Elsewhere in the chat, The Umbrella Academy star admitted that he wasn’t always certain about coming out.

He admitted: “My feelings aren’t really linear.

“I feel emerging joy and excitement one moment, and then in the next, profound sadness reading about people wanting to take gender-affirming health care away from children. I feel so grateful to be at this place in my life, and I want to use the strength I have to help in all the ways that I can.

“The reason you and I have the privileges we have is because people have sacrificed so much for so, so, so long and put everything on the line.”

The Oscar-nominated star took to Twitter last year and announced that he is transgender.

Elliot told fans that he was feeling fortunate to ‘have arrived at this place’ where he felt comfortable expressing his true self.
