Elon Musk has been branded ‘dangerous for democracy and global affairs’ by Twitter employees after purchasing the platform for a reported £44billion.

According to Bloomberg, developers have been banned from making any updates to the app that are not ‘business-critical’ and all changes must have the vice-president’s sign off.

Amid this, employees who are based in California have reportedly posted messages against Musk on the site and within its internal message boards.

Addison Howenstine, a software engineer at the company, apparently tweeted: “Point Of View: You asked me why El*n M*sk buying 9.2% of Tw*tter and getting a board seat is bad and I’m explaining why this was clearly not his end goal and things will certainly get worse and potentially be dangerous for democracy and global affairs.”

It comes as the human rights group Amnesty International expressed concern that the site may now take a more lax approach to ‘tackling hate speech’.

As well as this, actress Jameela Jamil announced she would be quitting the platform once she learned of the purchase.

At the time, she warned her followers: “One good thing about Elon buying Twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s [a] win-win for you all really.”

After it was confirmed, Jamil penned: “Ah he got Twitter. I would like this to be my what lies here as my last tweet.

“Just really *any* excuse to show pics of Barold. I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny. Best of luck.”
