Emily Ratajkowski has left fans confused by calling her ‘gender-neutral’ baby a ‘boy’.

The model, who was called out recently for posting a ‘wrong’ photo with her child, previously stated that she wanted to raise her offspring without ‘gender-based preconceptions’.

In an essay, which she penned for Vogue magazine, Ratajkowski wrote: “I don’t like that we force gender-based preconceptions onto people, let alone babies.”

She continued: “When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always ‘Do you know what you want?’

“We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then.

“Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who – rather than what – is growing inside my belly.”

However, she recently uploaded a snap of herself breastfeeding her baby, who she has named Sylvester Apollo Bear, and captioned it: “Beautiful boy.”

Although fans said it was a heartwarming snapshot, many were quick to point out that she’d contradicted herself.

One person questioned: “Thought you were letting the baby choose its gender? Weird. Almost like you did that for attention!”

Another added: “What? I thought she wasn’t going to gender the baby?

“I thought you said you weren’t going to gender the baby until they were 18?” a third pointed out.

However, some of the model’s fans argued that Ratajkowski simply meant that she didn’t want her child to be forced into ‘gender stereotypes’.

They wrote: “I think she just meant she’s not gonna force gender stereotypes on him or make him feel like he needs to identify a certain way.”

A second commented: “She never denied that her baby is a biological boy. It’s about his identity that he can choose when he is old enough.”
