A scuba diver has reportedly ‘solved a 20-year missing persons case’.

Jeremy Sides, from Atlanta, US, decided to help bring closure to the families of Erin Foster, and Jeremy Bechtel by locating the car – a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am – that they were last seen in back in April 2000.

Previous searches had taken place in the pair’s last known location, Sparta, Tennessee.

When locating them, Sides decided to explore Sparta’s Calf Killer River, as sources informed him Foster would often drive by this area.

To shed light on objects miles beneath the surface, he used solar technology.

The 42-year-old began the case in November 2021 and in the following month, he was able to locate Foster and Bechtel.

When the content creator finally found the vehicle, he made sure the car information was correct and then contacted the local police department.

Officials then verified the finding and removed it from the river. After this, the families were informed of the latest development in the case.

In an interview with ARK Media, Sides said he felt a ‘flood of emotions’ when he finally located the teenagers.

He told the news outlet: “It was very emotional. I was dedicated to finding them and getting them home.

“I was excited when I found the car and had a flood of emotions when I confirmed it was the missing teenagers.”

He went on to add: “I’m so glad I could find them but I’m so sad that’s where they ended up.”

Chatting to The Independent, Sides said he decided to look into the case as he’d found a ‘niche’ group of YouTubers who do the same thing.

“There’s about a handful of us around the country who are doing this,” he told the publication. “We dedicate our time and energy into searching for missing persons cases and making videos documenting it.”
