Facebook has fixed the bizarre glitch that showed strange posts on users’ news feeds and explained what went wrong.
On Wednesday morning, people logging onto the social media platform found their feeds dominated by posts from strangers which had originally been posted on celebrity pages.
Facebook has used this same vague explanation before, using the same phrase in October 2021 when a huge outage took the site down for around seven hours, and has used it multiple times since.
When the problem started, a Meta spokeswoman told MailOnline: “We’re aware that some people are having trouble with their Facebook Feed.
“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

The issue appeared to be a technical hitch with the system which automatically decides what to show on users’ feeds.
Users were quick to take to social media to complain about the problem, with many saying that Facebook was practically ‘broken’.
One commented: “I seriously thought my Facebook account got hacked after seeing all the weird posts in there.

“Glad to see I’m not the only one! @facebook please fix this soon it’s uncomfortable to scroll through all that.”
“I enjoy that when one social media app is in complete disarray, I can jump onto a different one and see the chaos affecting other people in real-time,” added another. “I don’t know what’s up with Facebook currently, but holy sh*t is the timeline feed a disaster right now.”
A third wrote: “Woken up to Facebook being super weird. Why is my feed full of people sending shit to celebrity pages?
“And who came to Twitter to see what was happening and if everyone else was having the same problem?”
The error resulted in celebrity pages being pushed into the feeds of anyone who followed that star, if a comment had been made on the post.
