Netflix Viewers Say Movie Is Making Them Cry So Much They’re Almost Throwing Up
Netflix viewers say a movie is making them cry so much they’re almost throwing up.
The streaming giant boasts an impressive catalog of films for subscribers, from Hollywood blockbusters to small independent movies.
In particular, a 2009 movie that follows a man’s close bond with a dog is catching viewers’ attention.
It’s left viewers so emotional that they’ve been nauseous and in tears.
After watching the film, one viewer said: “I just sobbed so hard I almost threw up, 11/10.”
“I’m still welling up today thinking about it,” shared a second.
A third person admitted: “I watched this and gave myself a panic attack crying so much I couldn’t breathe.”
“I cried for hours…it made me adore animals even more,” wrote somebody else.
The movie has also received praise from critics, with Leigh Paatsch penning in the Herald Sun: “We all know Marley & Me is the Citizen Kane of dog movies that can drain all tear ducts. However, this one (also based on a true story) runs an honest, heartbreaking second.”
While Allan Hunter penned in the Daily Express: “A simple, old-fashioned heartwarmer that all the family can enjoy.”
The heartfelt movie, directed by Lasse Hallström, is a remake of the Seijirō Kōyama’s 1987 Japanese film Hachikō Monogatari.
The original film tells the true story of an Akita dog named Hachikō, who lived in Japan from 1923 to 1935.
The 2009 version is set in modern-day America and stars Richard Gere, Joan Allen, Sarah Roemer, Jason Alexander, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.
The remake’s synopsis reads: “A professor finds an abandoned dog and takes him home. Over a period of time, he forms an unbreakable bond with the dog.”
After making Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, Gere opened up about its development and confessed to crying ‘like a baby’ when reading the script.
“I was telling people over dinner, and I could only get halfway through the story and I would start crying,” the Hollywood star, who plays the professor, told a news conference, per CNN.
He continued: “I wasn’t sure if it was just a very sensitive reaction I had that day, so I read it again a few days later and had the same reaction.
“This is a love story. It has nothing to do with gender or species.”
