Horror Movie Shot Entirely From The Killer’s POV Is ‘Most Disturbing’ Fans Have Ever Seen
A horror film shot entirely from the killer’s perspective has been branded the ‘most disturbing’ fans have ever seen.
There are many slasher movies for horror buffs, from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to A Nightmare on Elm Street, yet this new title has managed a clever twist.
It’s being praised by fans and critics alike, with one viewer writing: “A sickening blend of straight-up slasher with a mediation on violence as an instinctual baseline.”
Another adds: “One scene in the film was disgusting, I had to take a ten-minute break because I was genuinely disturbed.”
“I love horror movies, but this film traumatized me, it will stick with me for the rest of my life,” a third says.
Meanwhile, John Serba for the Decider wrote: “This some fairly innovative wickedness. It defies enough of the conventional rules of the genre, it might be the final nail in the slasher-movie coffin.”
Catherine Bray of The Guardian said: “From a horror fan’s point of view, this is an absolutely fascinating experiment with form.”
Screen Zealots‘ Louisa Moore penned: “It’s a classic slasher flick that’s suspenseful, clever, and innovative in its storytelling.”
It’s also scored an impressive 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The horror stars Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, and Lauren Taylor.
Directed by Chris Nash, it differs from the usual slasher horror format in that it’s shown from the killer’s point of view, so viewers see the murders firsthand.
It also juxtaposes the typical horror as it’s mainly shot in a national park, making the narrative even more disturbing with it being against a picturesque setting.
Its synopsis reads: “When a group of teens takes a locket from a collapsed fire tower in the woods, they unwittingly resurrect the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year-old crime.
“The undead killer soon embarks on a bloody rampage to retrieve the stolen locket, methodically slaughtering anyone who gets in his way.”
Despite being low-budget, it’s made a huge impact on fans.
In an interview with Bl**dy Disgusting, Nash said of In a Violent Nature‘s stylistic approach: “We didn’t have the biggest budget to do something crazy and wild with lighting and stuff, and I was like, ‘Well, let’s just go supernaturalistic.'”
He added: “We tried to treat it almost like making a nature documentary where we’re just following something, or following a letter carrier at work, just going from house to house.”
According to Film Updates, an audience member at the Chicago Critics Film Festival vomited during the horror screening.
Speaking of the incident, Nash told Dexerto: “I have no idea whether or not this is true, I can’t take any pride in it, although I’m also not concerned.”
