James Buckley Reveals His Favorite Inbetweeners Line And It’s Not One Of His Own
James Buckley has revealed his favorite line from The Inbetweeners, and it’s not even one of his own.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s been over a decade since The Inbetweeners wrapped up.
The hit British sitcom, which followed the misadventures of four socially awkward teenagers – Simon, Jay, Neil, and Will – ended 15 years ago, with its second and final film hitting cinemas 12 years ago.
Despite the years gone by, the show’s legacy lives on, particularly through its endlessly quotable dialogue.
From ‘oooh friend’ to the infamous ‘bus w***er,’ the show became a cultural phenomenon among U.K. teens, and its one-liners still echo through conversations today.
James Buckley, who portrayed the boastful and often inappropriate Jay Cartwright, was responsible for many of those unforgettable lines.
But surprisingly, his personal favorite isn’t one of Jay’s.
Though Buckley clearly still appreciates the humor of the show, fans hoping for a revival or a reunion might be disappointed.
He has made it clear that he won’t be returning to his role as Jay.
Speaking candidly on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Buckley explained (per The Huffington Post): “There’s not enough money in the world.”
Reflecting on his time with the series, he described it as ‘the best job in the world,’ adding: “All we did was muck around all day long and they filmed us doing it.”
However, his reluctance to revisit the role comes from a place of respect for the original material.
“It might be the only thing that I do professionally that is universally loved,” Buckley said. “There’s not enough money in the world for me to spoil that.”
So while Jay’s outrageous tales may live on through memes and reruns, Buckley is content to leave them in the past.
And as for his favorite line from the show?
Speaking on The Therapy Crouch podcast, hosted by Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch, Buckley shared the quote that stands out to him the most.
“There’s a line from The Inbetweeners, this is one of my favorite lines and it is Jay talking to his dad,” he said.
Recalling the moment, he added: “And his dad just goes, ‘Jay, women are like fairground rides, f***ing mental.’”
Buckley burst into laughter before continuing: “That’s it, that’s all it is – that’s the pearls of wisdom. And I’m just like ‘Oh thanks dad.’”
