Netflix Fans Hooked On ‘Best Series Of The Year’ They’re Bingeing In One Go
Netflix viewers are hooked on what has been described as the best show of the year, despite having only been on the streaming service less than a week.
The series, which landed on Netflix on June 18, wracked up more than 24 million views in the first couple of days, according to the streaming service, making it the biggest show on the platform this year.
“This show is so addictive,” one viewer wrote on Facebook, while another agreed: “Best series of 2026, 100%!!”
A third even said they had binge-watched the entire eight-part drama in one go, which tells us pretty much all we need to know.
Critics respond to hit series
Variety’s Aramide Tinubu described the series as a ‘dizzying, captivating experience that forces viewers to focus on the obvious even as something far more intricate unfolds in the background.’
She added: “A highly bingeable show, bursting with ludicrous yet eye-opening moments, it reminds viewers once again why they can’t stop watching shows with Coben’s stamp.”
Meanwhile, TV Fanatic reviewer Jasmine Blu said: “The mini-series is so deeply watchable, and that’s meant in the best possible way. Mostly because it fully understood the assignment, especially regarding summer fare.”
But not everyone was in agreement, with Esquire’s Matt Blake branding the series ‘ridiculous,’ before admitting he did, of course, watch the entire thing.
“It’s part of a formula already applied numerous times in the world of binge-worthy series, stories that are easily digestible, like a good fast food combo meal, as short-lived as they are addictive,” Diego Batlle said.
Chris Joyce from Movies and Munchies was less convinced on the show’s brilliance, suggesting it ‘involves an almost intolerable amount of plot conveniences that reduce the complexity.’
He added: “So the story becomes a tame and by-the-numbers mystery that gives away the majority of its secrets well before it should.”
Another Harlan Coben hit
As you may have guessed from Tinubu’s review, the show in question is yet another Harlan Coben adaptation, making it the 16th book to be made into a limited series, 13 of which are Netflix originals.
Coben is undoubtedly one of the most well known writers of modern thriller fiction, with his signature style that tends to feature ordinary people finding themselves in the most extraordinary situations.
His novels are known to be real fast-paced page turners, which always end with his trademark reveal. Just when readers think they’ve solved the mystery, Coben introduces another layer of deception.
While the series generally tend to be met with a mixed bag of reviews, it’s no secret they are highly addictive, thanks to all the twists and turns, with the final plot never seeming to make any sense at all until the very end.
The numbers don’t lie, however, and the latest Coben series certainly seems to be a hit after becoming the biggest Netflix original debut of the year so far.
This isn’t the first time one of his adaptations has made waves, either. Fool Me Once became one of Netflix’s most viewed titles in 2024 with more than 98 million views in the first 91 days, putting it on the streamer’s most popular TV list.
The Netflix show everyone is binge-watching
So, what is the show that every man and his dog seems to be watching? It’s called I Will Find You, based on Coben’s thriller novel of the same name.
The show follows David Burroughs, a man who is serving a life sentence for the murder of his three-year-old son Matthew.
However, David, played by Sam Worthington, has always maintained his innocence and claims he woke up covered in blood with no idea what had happened to his child.
Half a decade into his jail sentence, the dad’s former sister-in-law Rachel, who happens to be an investigative reporter, visits him in jail with a photo featuring a little boy who looks exactly like Matthew.
When he discovers there’s a chance his son might still be alive, he break out of jail to prove his innocence.
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Coben said: “This story starts in a very dark place. I wanted to figure out a way to tell a story that also had light, also had hope, and also had optimism.”
