Netflix viewers are praising a ‘10/10’ TV series they are bingeing in a single night.

In the dynamic world of South Korean entertainment, the journey from web novels to webtoon to television drama has become a well-trodden path, leading to some of the most compelling content available today.

One such remarkable journey is that of this series, which has captivated audiences worldwide since its release on Netflix on January 24, 2025.

Fans are loving the show, with one writing: “The best of the new shows THIS year, and DEFINITELY one of THE BEST [if not the best], doctor shows I have EVER seen.”

“Trust me – once you start watching, you’ll be recommending it to everyone you know,” agrees a second.

A third adds: “Only problem: I NEED MORE… MORE EPISODES.”

Critics, too, are praising the show.

Archi Sengupta of LeisureByte.com praised the series for its blend of humor and excitement, calling it ‘as hilarious as it is thrilling and making for an entertaining watch,’ awarding it a 4 out of 5 rating.

Pierce Conran highlighted Ju Ji-hoon’s performance as surgeon Baek Kang-hyuk in the South China Morning Post, noting: “Central to the show’s success is Ju, who has seldom been better as the picture-perfect Kang-hyuk, an enormously attractive role that complements his strong points,” also giving it a 4 out of 5 rating.

User reviews on MyDramaList reflect similar sentiments. One reviewer commented: “This drama was an absolute blast from start to finish. It kept me hooked every single moment, without a shred of boredom,” rating it 9 out of 10.

The story began with the web novel penned by Lee Nak-jun, known by his pseudonym Hansanleega.

A former ENT specialist, Lee transitioned into writing and YouTube content creation after a pivotal moment in his medical career.

His firsthand experiences in the medical field infused the novel with authenticity and depth, resonating with readers and leading to its serialization as a webtoon in 2019.

The webtoon garnered significant attention, amassing 410,000 global views, and setting the stage for its adaptation into a television series, Forbes reports.

Studio N, a subsidiary of Webtoon Entertainment Inc., recognized the potential of the story and undertook the task of adapting it for television.

The series follows Dr. Baek Kang-hyuk, portrayed by Ju Ji-hoon, a trauma surgeon with experience in conflict zones worldwide.

His unorthodox methods and unwavering confidence initially clash with the existing team at Hankuk National University Hospital.

However, his exceptional surgical skills and dedication to saving lives gradually earn him the respect of his colleagues as they strive to transform their struggling trauma unit into a top-tier team.

Upon its release, Trauma Code: Heroes on Call quickly climbed the ranks, securing the third position on Netflix’s Top Ten Most Watched non-English series worldwide, with 4.10 million global views.

The series’ blend of high-octane medical action and character-driven storytelling has resonated with audiences, leading to discussions about potential second and third seasons.

For Hansanleega, seeing his creation evolve from a web novel to a global television phenomenon has been a surreal experience.

He expressed his amazement, stating: “Seeing my very first web novel adapted into a webtoon, and then made into a drama that’s now streaming on Netflix, is an incredible honor and privilege as a writer.”
