Netflix fans are raving over a zombie apocalypse series which they say is ‘better than The Walking Dead.’

The first season of The Walking Dead, based on a comic book series of the same name, took viewers by storm in 2010, leading to numerous TV spinoffs and video games.

It followed a group of survivors trying to stay alive under the near-constant threat of zombies known as ‘walkers.’

Many fans feel that no zombie apocalypse series quite captures the magic of The Walking Dead, however, some say there’s one strong contender.

Raving about the relatively unheard-of Netflix series, one fan writes: “This is the best zombie show ever filmed in my opinion.”

Another adds: “Really enjoyed this show. Great characters/tension [and] non-stop action.”

“Definitely underrated. Worth watching!” comments a third.

Somebody else says: “So far, it’s what The Walking Dead should be.”

It’s even received praise from ‘King of Horror’ Stephen King, who pens: “No long, fraught discussions. No endless flashbacks, because there’s no back story. No grouchy teens. Dialogue is spare. Much shot with a single handheld camera, very fluid. Showrunners could learn a lot from this.”

In an article for the Decider, Kayla Cobb summarized why this zombie apocalypse stands out – it ‘drills into terror’ and captures people’s ‘secret fear.’

She penned: “These stories are never about dashing, larger-than-life heroes. They’re about watching a group of everyday people using everything at their disposal to survive.

“There’s no time for Shakespearean, Walking Dead-style monologues in the middle because you are running for your life.”

The zombie apocalypse series, created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, stars Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Christine Lee, Sal Velez Jr., Kelsey Flower, Erika Hau, Gwynyth Walsh, Mustafa Alabssi, Edsson Morales, and Zoe Marlett.

King stars in the lead role as Rose, a mom separated from her daughter, Anna, during the earliest and most dangerous days of the apocalypse.

To survive, she joins a small group of refugees in North America.

Black Summer, a spinoff of Z Nation, is made up of two seasons.

Although it was popular with fans, the show was unfortunately canceled before a third season could go ahead.

Co-creator Hyams confirmed the disappointing news when a fan took to X, formerly Twitter, and asked: “Season 3 of Black Summer or nah?”

He responded: “Sadly, nah.”

Still, there are two eight-episode seasons to binge on!
