Discussing the thriller on social media, one person writes: “I loved this movie! Honestly, it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. I was captivated from the start. It is so good!”

“One of the most suspenseful movies I’ve ever seen,” another enthuses. “Films like this find a perfect way to say more by doing less. I have seen the more disturbing and darker films out there, but you take them all less seriously when they rely on a shock factor for scares rather than tension.”

A third adds: “Surprisingly excellent!! Had no idea what to expect and was incredibly amazed. It was more terrifying, in a slowly building, quiet way, than any zombie or horror movie of recent time.”

Critics agree that the psychological thriller is worth the watch.

Brian Bisesi reviewed for the Horror Movie Club podcast: “A taut story, elegant direction, and a rich, nuanced performance, tense and unforgettable watch.”

Flick Feast‘s Dallas King said: “This film is a taut, tense and immensely watchable thriller. Plus, that last shot is one for the ages.”

“A moody, slow-simmering piece of work that proves that a solid chiller can still be made from modest materials,” Frank Swietek shared for One Guy’s Opinion.

The thriller has also been rated a well-deserved 88 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Chloe Okuno made her directorial debut with the Watcher, which explores the reality of stalking.

Starring Maika Monroe, Burn Gorman, Karl Glusman, Madalina Anea, and Daniel Nutam, its official synopsis reads: “As a serial killer stalks the city, a young actress who just moved to town with her boyfriend notices a mysterious stranger watching her from across the street in this terrifying thriller.”

In an interview with Film Hounds, Okuno spoke of the reality many women face in their lifetimes of being stalked or harassed.

“I think it’s a feeling that a lot of women have, unfortunately. It’s infuriating, probably because we’ve encountered it so often,” said the director.

“Even in the course of making this movie, I would find myself in weirdly similar scenarios, as a woman directing and needing to get my point of view across if not always being listened to.”
